Hmmmm ... if I had to pic a "rare" color I think it'd have to say either blackticks or saddlebacks. A blacktick is a white dog w/ black specks all over it's body. It reminds one of a Dalmatian, but the black marks are small ticks, not round dots.

A saddleback is a self colored dog w/ a black, blue or chocolate saddle on it's back. Most saddlebacks are tan w/ black saddles like a German Shepherd.

Here is pic of a black & tan saddleback I owned a few years ago:

I have a pic of a blacktick on file. If I get around to accessing it I will post it.

If you are talking about rare overall, I'd have to pick Jeep or Zebo. It's rare one can destroy like Zebo or go almost 4 hours like Jeep.

Yes! Those that are truly game-bred and have a line to prove it! You hear ppl say "Oh he is a Carver, or he is a Hammond's." But if they don't have the charactoristics that those dogs have, looks, wind, bite, or any traits that made that dog famous, then you cannot trully say they are of those lines. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good dogs out there, but the majority of ppl who are pushing them use those names to sell.

I dont consider any color rare but there are some of the more uncommon ones such as what abk said and a few others.

  5. I dont really like the term "Rare Pit" as Im sure most of you agree. There are certain traits that are not as common as the solid chocolate or black. They are all beautiful, but it is what is in the head that matters most, next to health. There are a lot of breeders who use the 'Rare Pit" as a way of getting people to but their dog and overcharge for them. I dont think that's right, but hey, what can I do? The only thing I can do is help educate people and I think I have done a good job of that.

Although I know that they are not rare, we produce Black & Tans. Not many Pit Bulls will produce them, and I am happy to have them in my lines! There is not much information online about them and I havent gotten through all my books yet. But I have collected some info & pictures on the Black & Tans on my site at www.haynespitbulls.com/black-tan.html This is still a work in progress, so bear with me.

The saddleback is a gorgeous Pit Bull. I havent seen but a few pics online of them.

That was a really bad plug for a puppy peddler's website. The dogs on there look of questionable origin and they're all in horrible shape (choco and moonbeam are the worst). If you're not breeding for working ability then you shouldn't be breeding. Also, I don't think any of those dogs could even compete in show. And you advertise Nu-Vet, it seems all the peddlers websites advertise that junk, why?

A rare APBT? How about a dog that is conformationally-correct, temperamentally-sound, posesses working ability, sound health, standard size/weight, and is down from dogs who are health-tested, well-conformed, titled, temp-tested, worked, not overbred, standard-sized, etc etc etc. :D (I guess I could shorten it to say a dog that is ethically bred from a breeder who goes the whole nine yards to prove their dogs and make sure they're only breeding the best.) Probably why I farted around for 6 years before I finally picked a breeder.
