I'm not going to debate the whole chain/nylon thing again, or even the spiked/non-spiked debate. But I cant pass up "2 INCH CHAIN". Parden my french but are you f-ing nuts! 5/16 chain is big enough for ANY dog. A high-quality 5/16 chain will hold a 65 lb. dog who hits the end of its chain all day long, with no problems if you used good hardware. For most dogs...even 5/16'' is overkill. For short walks, and short tie outs there is no need for a chain even 1/4 the size of what your using!

I agree... I don't care for the spikes NOR the image it portrays either.

I looked at the chain, and I over exaggerated. I could have sworn that it was about 2 inches. It's only about 1 inch. Sorry guys, an honest mistake. I haven't had a chance to goto the store to buy batteries for the camera. But I'm doing that this weekend.

    Yeah, gee, only 1 inch.

1/4 or 5/16 will more than cut it.

The only chain leash i got ( hardly ever use because it hurts my hands trying to control a lunging dog) it is about 3/16 or something like that. Less that 1/4.

....I pull 7,000 lb. trucks out of ditches with two old rusty 5/16th inch chains. Seems to me thats more than adequate to hold a dog. Hell, I'd be worried about your arm coming out of socket before snapping a 1/4 inch chain!

I'm not worried about the chain lead I had before snapping...It doesn't fit the harness...The loop for the harness is too thick. Plus a smaller chain doesn't look good with the harness. My whole family thinks the harness looks good and the harness with the new chain looks even better....

  12. i agree i have a pretty thick chain for my dog because it looks good with his harness.....i dont like the fact that people on this board go all nuts when you say my dog has a spiked collar or i use a 2 inch chain..... if someone likes the way it looks with there dog let them be..its no different from the yorkies in versacci or however you spell it

Actually, it is a little different. No one is trying to outlaw Yorkies, can't say the same for APBTs. Ever heard of breed specific legislation??? I don't think you have or you wouldn't have answered so ignorantly. The reason people on this board "go all nuts" as you so eloquently put it is because we don't want to lose our dogs through the ignorant actions of others. All spike collars and thick chains do is continue to perpetuate a negative image to an already underinformed, fearful public.

We just have to accept that some people only have a "pit" for the reputation it brings them. The dog is nothing more than a walking fashion accessory much like the spiked harnesses & huge chain leads they use on them. Some people just love that thug look. It's a shame it makes people pity there dog & laugh at them.

Who the heck cares if a smaller chain doesn't look good with your harness??? Are you walking your dog or going on a fashion shoot? Why are you walking your dog, is it just to be seen, or is for the benefit of the dog? Trust me the best pit champions and representations of the breed have never broken nylon horse leads, ever, and none of them have ever been in spiked harnesses either. In your sig. you have a picture of a dog and the words "Stop BSL". Maybe you could actually help to stop BSL, instead of indirectly contributing to the support of BSL. If you're not going to be part of the solution, don't be part of the problem.

    Yeah that's my dog....

I'm not in the mood to "argue" with you all. You all have good points. But I "dress" Lexas the same way I dress myself...To look good. I take Lexas with me to parties, etc. and she wears her spikes and large chain if I'm wearing hip-hop style clothes...she wears a plain color collar and a normal leash if I'm wearing Hollister style clothes. But I'm done defending myself. Like I said I understand where you all are coming from.

The best way to "dress" your dog is with the safest and sturdiest equipment. Equipment that won't cause the dog harm. We as human beings pass judgement on others even when it's not our place to do so, therefore if judgement is to be passed, lets make it good, not bad.

As fanciers of the APBT, it should be in our hearts to want to change the public's view on Pit Bulls from that of "those big dogs that the thugs have" into a more enlightened, educated, and respectful view. The stereotypes need to be squashed. "Dressing" a dog up to look rough and tough is in no way helping. I'm not saying when you take your dogs out to put frilly boas around their necks and tape bows to their ears, but big chains, lots of spikes, etc., are not true representation of the breed. Yes these dogs are tough as nails, but they are also big clowns and teddy bears.

All I see on this thread is people saying don't put spikes on your dog because it sends the wrong image, well what about the so-called dogmen that have 30 or 40 dogs all bred for one thing. Some of those dogs having extensive scars and battle wounds all over their bodies, now correct me if im wrong but isn't that sending the wrong image to the public. These dogmen claim to love the breed so much but then turn around and let them battle each other until one eventually quits from any number of reasons, which i may ad are all violent endings. If they love the breed and know that the breed is very animal aggressive why would u let them do things like that to each other, if u really loved the breed u would do everything possible to keep them from harming each other.
