I am glad that you were there to down the out of control dog. The out of control owner should be in jail. I to with all the others hope your family is going to be o.k. It has been said by more than myself, if you dont train them, dont blame them. For me it would be hard to not blame the dog and owner in this situation. You are a hero and your family may be alive because of it.

You did the right thing.I too would've slit the dogs throat.Don't feel bad because you could of saved some little girl from being attacked while walking to school. If a dog is that aggressive it needs put down regardless of the breed.

You did what you had to protect your family. Do not feel guilt over this. That dog sounds like a problem waiting to happen. I'm glad there were not more serious injuries. Those people are very irresponsible to keep an animal like that.

    Regards,

    B

  5. dont worry i think anyone would have done what you did.exept maybe one of those peta freaks, they probably would have let the dog eat there family just to save a animal.

You did what needed to be done, Mastiffs are powerful animals and tend to naturally be weary of strangers, I know-I have one. However, the right thing to do for them is to socialize them so they arent leash sharks-and learn how to control them both on a walk and in the home setting. Its unfortunate all involved lost something or experienced something so traumatic as this....if all would be responsible owners of their dogs, stories like this wouldnt happen.

Don't beat yourself up over this, you did what only comes natural, protecting your family. The owner sounds, as though, she shouldn't have been walking a big dog that was to strong for her. You never know, when a dog will do something out of character. I hope all works out for the best, in the end. I also hope, your wife & baby, will be just fine. Take care & things will be better soon. Missy.

Of course you feel guilty, you're an good person. Anyone who potentially saves the lives of their wife and daughter are great, AND you feel bad for the dog. You have good character. You did what needed to be done. I also feel sorry for the dog, there is something very wrong with any dog who would do that, who knows what made it that way. As far as the owner, consider the possability that it was her 20 year old son's dog who decided to take off unannounced and she felt sorry for it and took it for a walk. Of course she took on a responsability by taking the animal in public but she obviously was ignorant and maybe it was a simple sircumstance because no owner would want to be a part of that scene.

Again, good for you taking care of your family. I'm sure you wife and daughter will always remember how you stuck up for them in a horrible and trying time.

That dog could've easily injured all of you. You did the only thing you could do. I hope if that woman ever gets another dog, she takes into consideration her ability to handle it, and the tragedy that could've happened in this case. (I'm sorry, I don't consider the loss of an off-the-handle dog a tragedy, but the loss of your daughter -- or your pup, or an arm or leg -- would most definitely have been.)

Did the police cite her? (Sorry if it was said and I missed it.)

  11. You used my words! You did good, think about what that dog would do with you if you hit the owner or the maybe pupys of that dog......the dog would protect and try to kill you! And thats what you did....god bless you!

The police did nothing to her. I must file a complaint before anything can be done to her. Which I will. It looks like I will be having to pay a heavy fine for having my knife and possibly another fine for what they call "overly aggressive behavior" on my part  . That's as close as a translation to English that I was able to get from my French speaking friend. All that means is that I will be sure to get that money from Mastiff's owner. Also, instead of my daughter being afraid of dogs, she terrified of going near our car or any other car. I guess she's still freaked out from the fall.:( Thanks everyone for all your support. I would post pics of my wife's leg but she has forbidden me from doing so. As i find out more I will post it. Again, thanks. I really do feel a bit better about the whole thing.

Just bringing this to a close. I was only fined 500 Euro for possesion of my knife. The other charge for "overly aggressive behavior" on my part was dropped. The owner of the Mastiff payed for the fine and voluntarly payed us 3000 Euro. We were very surprised she did that because if we would have gone to court, she would of been made to pay less. I guess she feels really guilty. My wife is recovering fine and Elisa is doing great. She no longer fears the car. Thanks guys for all you support and God bless.

nothing can ease your daughters fears for awhile,,,it is a tough one all around,,I am glad u had the knife,,don't want to think about what would of happened if u didn't,,it sucks that u have to pay,,but,,still a small price for your family,,at least the lady does see the errors of her and the dog. She seems like an honest person,,just made a bad dog.

You Did The Right Thing Even If You Would Have Had A Breaking Stick The Dog Could Have Turned On You Once You Broke Him Loose. This Is The Type Of Thing That Happens With Irresponsible Owners. If That Would Have Been A Pitbull That Did The Damage It Would Have Been In All The News Papers And Everywhere Else. A Mastiff What O It Wouldn't Do That. My Prayers Are With You And Your Family. Please Work With You R Little Girl And Your Wife Because They Will Be Shell Shocked For A While But Don't Let This Deter You In Owning And Raising A Bulldog.

I can tell you this...my pittie, Lexas is like a daughter to me, and I have come between her and, on several occasions, other dogs. Lexas never instigated the dogs. Anyway, I was always ready to do whatever I had to protect her. Although, luckily I havn't had to, and hopefully never do. But I could just image if Lexas was actually my child. You did the right thing. Although I agree with you, that it isn't really the dog's fault, but the owner. You have to look at it this way, that is your family, your wife, your child and your pet. Family comes first, no matter what. I would die for my family (my parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and most importantly my "daughter" my dog)

My prayers are with you and I hope that your wife, child...and lil puppy are okay. Keep your faith in God, He will help you through this situation. God doesn't put His children in situations that they cannot overcome. This is just an obstacle in your life.

    ~Kila~
