My dog develops bumps almost like hives then they eventually go away and the hair falls away where the bump was leaving tiny ball spots around his coat. Is their a solution to this before I go and pay the vet unecessary money for them to tell me something I can buy and fix myself.

Sounds like your typical pitbull skin allergy problem. Have seen it and battled it before, and sorry to say the only way we ever walked away with a normal coat of fur again was after steroids and antibiotics. Eventually the dog needs allergy testing, and then you will know what is setting the allergies off. With Dixie it was chlorine. With Sas, it was pollen. My peke, wheat and corn. But they all had what sounds like you are describing. To the T. It may NOT be the same, but pitbulls often have skin problems that are caused from allergies, or just plain dry skin.

If the bumps arent so bad yet, try an oatmeal bath, and maybe some Happy Jack on localized spots. If it is indeed narrowed down to allergies, mild cases can be controlled with Benedryl, although your vet would have to give the dose according to your dogs size and weight, which he should do over the phone.

Good luck, and I hope it turns out alright.

  3. no you need to go get a skin scraping done by a vet of your choice. It should not be expensive and could save yer dog from alot of unessisary discomfort.Could be anything from mange, to allergies.I would immediatly change food to a lamb and rice mixture such as diamond lamb and rice, and take it to the vet.

yes please take him to the vet ASAP! There are so many serious skin problems that this could be. a skin scrape is only a couple of bucks. skin conditions are nothing to wait around and see.

Im sorry I should have elaborated more with my first paragraph, by suggesting medicines my dogs have been on and diagnosis, this could ONLY be done by a vet. I meant to say call your vet, sorry, LOL, guess my hands were moving faster then my mind, and I was assuming you read between the lines!!! Of course, see your vet.

Please do not assume that this is an allergey. There are many, many problems that this could be. My dog just had similar symptoms and the diagnosis was a staph infection of the skin along with ringworm. Ringworm in dogs appears as a dry, flaky, round, bald patch on the skin. Allergies are a very real possibility but just to be safe you should really see a vet before you try any home remedy as these could make the problem worse. Trust me I just went through this!

Yes, I agree, every "allergy attack" my dogs have ever had, resulted in staph, which is what the anti biotics and steroids were for. Once the "bumps" turn scabby or oozy, it is most likely staph. When the hair falls out, it is worse.
Sometimes I have ahard time explaining EXACTLY what I mean, I guess I assume people to understand that steroids/antibiotics=vet visit and I meant that the blood tests are done at the vet. I keep forgetting some people do not know as much.
It could be ringworm, but that CAN be cured by Happy Jack. It can be mange, there are soooo many forms of mange. Its just allergies are SOOOOO common in this breed, that is usually what it ends up as!

Oh well, sorry, guess I will try to be more informative next time, and detailed.
