Can anyone tell me if pinch collars are any good? Or is a choke collar better?

they are great for training (not for walking) and alot more pet friendly than a choke collar please never leave either one on your dog when not attended

Pinch collars are better than prong collars because it wont crush your dogs windpipe. It just pinches the skin. The prong collar must be used high up on the dogs neck, right behind his ears, for best effectiveness. Do not leave your dog alone with either collar on, its just for training purposes.

Thanks for the information. Don't worry she only has her regular nylon collar with her tags on it, left on at all times.

I WOULDNT use a choke collar, all it does is choke your dog, and can cause damage to windpipes.

i use nylon collars on my dogs, its great exercise to have them pull ya around, BUT some people dont like this, if you are one of these people, i would get the prong collar. They are best for training/walking.

I have a prong collar, i use it ONLY when i take dogs out jogging w/me, as its not fun being dragged while running. They are collar smart & dont tug w/the prong... well unless they see another dog, or an evil cat (but i have another collar on for emerg.'s & they pull me home).

Like stated, i would NOT leave a prong/choke collar on for a reg. collar, ONLY use the prong for walking/training.

If you want to have the best control of your dog possible use the prong (aka pinch) collar or one of those training collars that goes around the muzzle. They are not in any way painful, especially on a pit type dog (very muscular necks and high pain threshold) I love them and they work wonderfully.

  7. we had alot of luck with a training collar, looks like a chocker, but it nylon in the front, not chain. So when she does pull it still tightens around her neck, but isnt as damaging as a chocker. I think we picked it up at petsmart.

They style choker that I think you are referring to is called a martingale, which is offerred in nylon, those are good, they are pulled from the behind and apply preasure evenly around the neck.

They work very well. We use it on Dixie for training. Actually, when we walk her, we use both, because of her animal aggressivness. We put it on the regular collar, and if she starts her "business" and it gets to be too much, we CAREFULLY switch to the pinch, and she quits and walks away. Tis is hard to do because switching is not safe, she can get away if you are not totally 100% careful.

My bro in lay used the head harness trainer, and his dog started going crazy and scratching at it, before he could get it off, he scratched his eye out. Horrible. I think if you dont start w/ this collar young, ti is overwhelming to adapt for the dog.

    Either way, good luck.

DONT use the "gentle leaders" (that goes over the muzzle). They are crap (trust me, ive seen them break, on a BORDER COLLIE)

  12. I Never Have Used Either Of Those Collars If You Have A Good Bond With You Dog You Just Dont Need It Your Dog Will Die For You If You Have A Good Bond With Him So I Think He Will Submit To Training With Out Gettin Choked Or Pinched In The Neck.thats Just Me Though
