Black redboy hounds

    Anyone have any knowledge of some old black redboy dogs? I heard a few stories of the original redboy blood but don't want to spread any rumors. Anyone have first hand knowledge of britches or g-mans gambler?

    You will see more than a few black ones in the Mims strain.

    The Mims strain carries a few heavy Red Boy dog that end up black. Most of those come via Hard Tack/Carolina Flo dogs. The Patrick's Bull Boy Bob seems to carry some color dominance. The Mims straight Red Boy dogs are some sort of Red, from Buckskin to almost chocolate colored.

    I have a 5/8th Red Boy male that is black. He is Mims/Holland blend. His mom is chocolate and his dad was black, via Rainbow.

    And there are multiple stories on what made Red Boy. From Bullet to Hemphill to Old Family Red nose dogs. And I am sure there are stories and theories I have not heard. I have heard his breeding is as advertised but the kicker is that what ever was good at the time was registered to Teal's Jeff sire. So he could very well be out of Teal's Jeff but then there is much debate on the accuracy of Teal's Jeff's pedigree. And so on and so on.

    It can be a fun topic, even a heated one, but for me I place more concern on tomorrow's Red Boy dog than yesterday's Red Boy dog, if that makes sense.

    I had one from a daughter of Mimms Happy more of a RedboyMedlins
    Blend. Alot of people tend to call this this blend redboy but it's not.
    I have to look at the ped its been awhile but that hound could bite.

    So the top was Double bred Fatso to Redboy Medlins, all mimms bred hounds. The dam was white rednose with a few bucksin patches. Very game female.

    One of the rhymes from back in the day was "Mr. Bass is an ass". He was an arrogant guy and could come off as a bully. For whatever reason he and Marlowe hit it off. Mr. Mims had his respect because Mr. Mims has been a full grown man, in every sense of the word, for an awful long time. Mr. Bass tried to play hard ball with AH and bully him ton a contest. AH got a dog ready and when Mr. Bass bullied he accepted. At 20 minutes Mr. bass was no longer and bully and left with his and his dog's tail between their legs.

    Or at least that is how it was told.

    Not sure if it were the strain or the selection but the Medlins dogs did/do seem to bite. Especially if they are down from medlins George and Medlins Charlie.

    I would think some of the black redboy dogs would have some Jacobs Assassin Blood behind them but those are Loposay/Redboy crosses

    Haha. I kind of heard the same. Do you have any stories of Mr Williams? Is there so!e of that still floating around? He was said to have helped her out a lot when her and Mr bass split? I seen a few that were down from her and him and they do not look like your typical redboy blood.

    Nope. Round here seal is when the dog looks black but in the sun u see some red "hi lights".

    Bully breeders have stolen the term and misused it. They use it for blue / grey dogs, but they are incorrect.

    Seal, I produce quite a few this color. Seal is typically black in low light with it looking brownish or red in the light, according to the ADBA.

    Think of the marine animal, that's what is meant as far as the color seal. This dog here is a true seal color.

    My bitch is Seal.. She looks black until in the sun, then she's a dark chocolate.. According to ADBA anyways..
