Glad I don't feed Diamond... It's like 'Canines Of The Corn'. [IMG]

    Important Customer Alert

Diamond Pet Food has discovered aflatoxin in a product manufactured at the company’s Gaston, S.C. facility. Out of an abundance of caution, we have notified our distributors in the areas affected and recommended they hold the sale of all products potentially affected by this situation.

Product quality and customer satisfaction are important to us, and we pledge to keep you updated as new developments occur.

    What is Aflatoxin?

Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxic chemical by-product from the growth of the fungus Aspergillus flavus, on corn and other crops. The fungus develops on crops during years with severe high temperature stress and drought.

    What products are affected?

Products formulated with corn at our facility in Gaston, S.C. may be affected by this situation (see complete list below).

The Gaston facility date codes are unique from other Diamond facility codes in that either the eleventh or twelfth character in the date code will be a capital “G” (in reference to Gaston). The range of date codes being reviewed are “Best By 01-March-07” through Best By “11-June-07.” Diamond’s quantitative analysis records substantiate that Diamond’s corn shipments were definitively clear of aflatoxin after December 10. As such, “Best By 11-June-07” date codes or later are not affected.

Gaston facility products recommended for temporary removal from sale include:

Diamond Original Dog Food Kirkland Signature Maintenance Cat Food

Diamond Low Fat Dog Food Canine Club Adult Dog Food

Diamond Hi-Energy Dog Food Professional Reduced Fat Chicken & Rice Dog Food

Diamond Maintenance Dog Food Professional Adult Dog Food

Diamond Maintenance Cat Food Professional Adult Cat Food

    Diamond Professional Cat Food

    Country Value Puppy

    Country Value Adult Dog

    Country Value High Energy Dog

    Country Value Adult Cat Food

Are products manufactured at other Diamond facilities affected by this situation?

No. Products manufactured at our Gaston facility are the only ones affected.

What states receive products from the Gaston facility?

The Gaston facility provides products to our customers in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky (eastern), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Vermont, and Virginia.

What symptoms should I look for from my pet?

Symptoms of illness will include sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, yellowish tint to the eyes and/or gums, and severe or bloody diarrhea.

What should I do if I suspect my pet is ill?

If you suspect your pet is ill, please consult your veterinarian immediately.

Who can I call for more information?

  6. Hey Everyone

This @#$%%% almost killed my girl. We just got back form the Vet today and I was lucky to stop feeding her yesterday after she started vomiting and crapping all over herself (see the link below). I just sent an email to Diamond and I hope I get all my Vet expense for this back.

I had just bought a new bag of diamond a day before the recall went out. I stopped feeding it when i found out. Luckily none of my dogs have shown any kind of sickness. Especially my pit. She has 13 pups feeding off of her right now.

And Gal i hope your puppy is feeling better.

Did your bag of diamond feed match the lot # on the recal list?

Did your vet order or do any inhouse blood work, chem 6/7 or 12, cbc, doft, eoft? any other type test?

Was your vet able to confirm to you that it was infact the the diamond feed, if so what was the finding's?

    Regards.

  12. The Lot# and Best Before Dates match the recall. No Blood work was done but I've been asked to monitor her for continued vomiting and bloody diareha, but so far she is doing well. She was placed on some anti-inflamitary drugs to counteract any blood poisoning etc. The Vet does want to check on her liver condition sometime next week.

just lost my 3rd dog in the past week to diamond......his name name was hollywood he is on my webpage. Vet says dogs that aren't showing symtoms are not clear for at least 60 days, and even then long term damage is very possible. Its causing liver damage and bleeding and lack of clotting ability. hollywood will be missed also....................

"Vet says dogs that aren't showing symtoms are not clear for at least 60 days, and even then long term damage is very possible."

Wonderful. I just looked over the bag of diamond that i had bought and it matches up with the recall batch and #. My 4 regular dogs all ate it and my 13 puppies are nursing off thier momma. Guess i just have to keep a close eye on everybody.

"Its causing liver damage and bleeding and lack of clotting ability."

Great. My pit mix already has some serious health problems. Including a clotting disorder.
