Meat - nothing in a flashy bag compares. Dog is a carnivore not a herbivore.

I have Orijen adult formula on hand, but to me it is a merely a filler for when I'm running low on 'live' proteins.

I feed primarily raw meat, poultry, organs, bone, but also cooked fish and homemade soups/stews. Supplement boiled eggs, sometimes kefir and cooked veggies like carrots and potatoes.

Incorporate raw bones. Your pup's teeth and gums will benefit.

Dogs are more omnivorous than given credit. My partners dog ate cereal all the time!!! I would say cats are more carnivorous by nature. A roaming, hungry dog will eat anything. Most cats still hunt and kill, even after being "let loose from the house" as my granny says. Her cats leave her a fresh kill weekly. Dogs will have knocked over a trash can...

Yes, a dog may survive on cereal or scavenging refuse in the alley. But such diet is not optimal for long term health. Especially not for dogs that get stressed frequently through exercise and training/work. While my girl may be an indiscriminate eater with a strong digestive system, I avoid the processed food - and consider myself fortunate to be able to do so.

Cats..I have one too. Well fed house kitty, super sweet. Stone killer in the yard. For pleasure. Annoying. Birds, rodents, reptiles and large bugs. Keeps them alive for play after tearing off limbs. She sometimes eats lizards' heads. Instinct.

It's my hobby so I always tinker around and tweek there diet.As long as I get low cost deals that's part of the hobby.I feed a good kibble with a 1/2 carrot cut up,, I get carrots in 5 pound bags dirt jeep.My newest move is on sunday I mix in a 1/2 can of tuna sorta like spaghetti day for dogs it's tuna LOL.I'm getting a little older and have been training my whole life so my own diet has gotten better and better as I age you have to keep a good diet or goodbye 6pack. so my dogs get my scraps which are always high in protein very low fat.Dogs are scavengers by nature period take advantage of owning a working dog and not fat fluffy or pretty girl.Working dogs always hungry and will never turn up a free meal or snack,, apple, carrot, bones, khale, veggy juice, tiny bit of 1%milk, etc....,,,,,fluffy on the other hand is super picky and fussy from being spoiled. When I eat a whole chicken I freeze what's left for me and the dogs get what's is left which is plenty.
