Ditto to AGK. Everyone thinking of Mexico should thank you, Bestia.

I lived there 6 mo. during a medical crisis with my lady at the time. It was in Baja. Rosarito. Things were cool, friendly and no one gave a shit. But that was long, long ago. Thanks for the updates on behalf of anyone thinking of going to Mexico.

No problem. I'm lucky that I get to live in both places and was fortunate to go to a good school and learn english and be able to travel thanks to my parents and grandparents sacrifices. I spend about half my time in my house in the USA 2 hours from my house in Mexico where my mom and grandma live. It's a border area where we haven't had full out war like Laredo, Juarez, Reynosa and Matamoros, but we have had flare ups and off course all you worry about is your family. I made a very good living earning dollars in Mexico in one of the most dangerous cities in the world when the war started in Torreon, had luxuries that I don't have in the USA. It was not worth it and left in 2010 when things got too dangerous. Nightly curfews, extortion, kidnapped our company GM for 3 weeks and all out war between 2 powerfull cartels and the military. You never knew which side the local, state or federal police were on, getting pulled over by them was the scariest. You could see from your windows bazookas and RPG's in the nice part of town. I'm not including all the friends and acquaintances that were kidnapped or/and murdered. It was a desperate situation with the war and the global economic crisis at the same time. I'm one of the lucky ones that was able to leave and go somewhere else. Most people can't leave, and as we see there are many in even more desperate situations in Central America that willingly risk their lives and cross Mexico to get to the USA by foot. I know they're illegals but these folks that make it from places that are worse than Mexico like Honduras, El Salvador have my respect. I would rather cross Afghanistan than Mexico as an illegal.

There is a reason why so many rich Mexicans are leaving Mexico and starting businesses in the USA to aquire residency. There's a huge rich neighborhood in San Antonio that is now nicknamed "Nuevo Monterrey". That's when you know things are fuked up, when the rich start to flee, becasue their quality of life is so much better in Mexico in their mansions with a cook, gardener and 2 maids. In the USA they can't afford those luxuries, but they sure act like it, lol. Some of these rich Mexicans are obnoxious, they literally think they're royalty. But they get checked once in the USA and they come back to earth.

That's one thing I LOVE about the USA. The waiter, mechanic, bartender etc get treated with respect and as an equal for the most part, at least compared to Mexico. My 1st job in the USA was a bartender when I was going to school, I was shocked how well I was treated, I was expecting to be talked down to like servers in Mexico. It was great, stayed bartending at the same place until I finished school and went back to Mexico when it was still paradise. Could do dogs anytime with no worries, my police friends would look over my dogs and even come to shows. Took my grandma to the palenques(rooster derbys) like my grandfather used to, because at the big derbys they still had great singers perform. Go to the beach anytime to fish without a worry, eat all the fresh lobster, oysters and shrimp you wanted for less than $5. AND THE GIRLS!!! From Monterrey, Torreon, Piedras, Baja and specially Gudaljara(most beautiful IMO). Beautiful Mexican girls of all flavors without having to worry about getting killed over looking at a pretty girl like in some places today. All that has changed because now you are worried about your families safety 1st.

So to anyone thinking about moving to Mexico becasue of these animals I would advise against it, it's not worth it. Maybe in the future but not yet. Unless you're on the run like some of my American friends, then it's a great place, lol. And another thing Mexico can learn from the USA is guns. I feel very safe after watching a scary movie with my AR-15 and pump shotgun under my bed, lol. In Mexico the good guys can't have guns, probably becasue it would lead to a revolution that same day. And one very sad economic trend I see in the USA is the rich keep getting much richer and the middle class is shrinking, just like it happened in Mexico in the 80's.

Mop Master, Mexico much worse than anywhere here.
My guys from Jalisco taught me it is better to die than be kidnapped. A friends brother was tortured to death with a blow torch back in 2010 by a cartel.
Down there they will cut your head off, throw you in a barrel full of acid, burn you alive, and laugh at you while they do it.
Anywhere around the plazas near the pipelines is dangerous. As bestia pointed out a bit, you don't know who is on what payroll.

Safest places in Mexico are the tourist areas. The cartels lose money if there is too much bloodshed.
Unless you know somebody there, best to avoid it.

Its not what it used to be and alot of my friends from there have no intentions of ever going back...
It would be hard for an american to fit in, evan with the right connections and money...
The only way to live in TGs mex casa would be to be from that area, as other mexicans from differnt states are outcast and will pay heavy to retire with a yard full of game dogs that are seen as profit, whether you make any money off them or not you will bw extorted and if you look the wrong way you might be tortured slowly...Times have changed as bestia mentioned, the folks in guatemala, equador and el salvador have it no easier... They get tortured traveling thru mex to the usa...

This thread has me wondering what countries would be good in terms of dual citizenship for any reason, including dogs. How about Caribbean countries, Europe, S America, etc. Consider the various facets of life, such as security, the ability to own land and property, how good is the food, and the weather, are there good dogs there, etc.

I travel down there a lot and talk to friends who live down there. Life is cheap and has no value. As an outsider you will stand out unless you have a friend that can show you the way and try to blend in. If anybody suspects that you are making money in your operation you will probably get extorted. As nice as is it would be to not have to to worry about getting busted for doing its not worth it because you will have to worry about your life. And if you have family with you it makes it a lot riskier.

Another bit of my rambling but here goes. I have seen a few diff threads where we have talked about diff countries to live that would be best to do the dogs. Well I kind of feel like the best thing to do is keep your circle correct and you can do what you please wherever you are, in most countries where it is prevalent these days it is actually still illegal it's just kept among a certain group of people and done just like it was done here from 76 on up. I think in any situation in any country it will depend more on the company you keep than the fact your doin dogs. We just have to accept the fact that 90% of people in the states getting busted are either stupid as hell and running their mouth about their dogs accomplishments or they let the wrong person in the circle and they rat them out. I mean in all actuality, who can up and move to another country just for the dogs? And if you aren't already known where your going I don't see it being an easy transition, you'd face same probs as here..... Not knowing who to trust, running risk of being setup by police or for a robbery or someone steals your dogs..... And that could happen in the nicest of places not just rough countries

    That does make sense.

And I thought I remembered seeing other threads about different countries, and would like to read those. There must be somewhere good. Although life experience has taught me to appreciate the U.S.
