YEAH EVERY BODY! WELL THE TIME HAS COME WHEN I NEED YOUR HELP. MY FRIEND AND HER BOYFRIEND BOUGHT A HOUSE NOW LEFT BEHIND AT THIS HOUSE WAS A BOXER PIT MIX. HE WAS LEFT BEHIND CHAINED WITH NO FOOD OR WATER. SO BEING THE GOOD PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE TOOK IN THE DOG. I GUESS ONE OF THE NEIGHBORS TOLD THEM THAT THE GUY THAT HAD THE DOG BEFORE THEM WOULD BEAT IT. I HAVE SEEN THE DOG AND HE DOES ACT LIKE HE HAS BEEN BEATEN. THEY HAVE A MALE PIT BULL THE DOG DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BUT WITH HER BOYFRIEND. WELL THE DOG SHOWS EVERY AGGRESSIVE BEHAVOR TORDS HIM. THIS DOG IS 10YEARS OLD IF NOT OLDER. NOW IT CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH KIDS AND OBVISLY NOT MALES SO SHE NEEDS TO FIND A HOME WITH WOMEN ONLY. THIS MIGHT BE MEEN BUT I THINK THE DOG SHOULD BE PUT DOWN HE CANNOT BE TRUSTED UNLESS HE IS AROUND GRILS ONLY. WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE SHOULD DO?

I would take him to the pound . See if they could find him a home.

I would go ahead and euthanize the dog. Why risk him as a liability? Rehoming won't do much; One can't guarantee he won't come in contact with a male, what what if he becomes aggressive towards women? He's old, and may have an underlying health problem, but that's no excuse for the poor temperament.

At this point, we need to think of the entire breed over induvidual dogs. This dog sounds to far gone to help, and I think euthanisia is the most practicle option at this point. Just let him know he's loved- sounds like the dog had a hard life prior to coming into your friends care.

    Good luck,

    -Michelle

Most pounds euthanize friendly, sound pit bulls on the spot :(. I don't think they would waste any time giving this dog the blue needle; which may actually be a good thing. . .

TAKING THE DOG TO THE POUND Is Not A Good Idea Sorry But Thanks. Frist The Pound Does Not Screen Who They Are Adopting Too. If This Dog Gets Into The Wrong Hands Could Be A Bad Sitution Or A Accendt.

I think she'll understand. It's hard, I know it is :(. But remind her what a tough time this breed is going through right now, and every choice makes a difference.

  9. Damn, I hate to say it (never thought I would) but if it is 10 years old and aggressive..............Damn.....here it is: Take him to the pound :(

but if you can find some single (older lady) with pit bull experience, that would be a better answer!

GSD She Knows. I Think Putting Him Down Would Be The Best Bet. I'm Sad Your Frist Post Brought Tears To My Eyes. He Has Had Such A Rough Life You Can Just Look At Him And See It In His Eyes And Face.

How long has she had the dog. Normally, I wouldnt trust a dog showing any bad signs....but this dog is under some extreme circumstances. Obviously, he's old first and foremost. He was beaten and left without care, sounds like he has had a pretty bad life as it is. If the dog is acting o'k towards everyone but the one male, I'd give it a shot. Put yourself in the dogs position for a minute-he's scared, he's old,and he's got nothing to live for, and hes untrusting (rightfully so). My opinion is show him some love, get him to trust you and give him some time to understand you are his new owners and you love him. If the dog doesnt change and it needs to be euthanized, at least you will know you gave this old man a happy ending to his life. I think he deserves a shot, but its not my call.

My dog growled at my dad for the first two weeks he was here. We figured out it was because the first time he met my dad he was holding a hammer and he still seems to have issue with men holding anything that is hammer/bat shaped. Obviously something happened to him. Poor guy.

Now he is fine with my dad. Loves him, infact, because he knows he's the softy.

I've say give him time. But if the dog truly is aggressive then it would be best to PTS him, as sad as it is. There are very few homes out there who are women only where men never visit. It would be tough to responsibly place him.

If the dog is a Boxer/Pit mix try a Boxer rescue. They won't euth him & have foster families there who are willing to work out his issues then adopt him to an approved home. At the very least they have a foster home that would give him a good home until The Lord calls him back. An APBT rescue center would be a good option as well.

Here is a link to the American Boxer Rescue Affiliates:

I'm sure y'all already know the pit bull rescue facilities.

    Good luck!

pitbulls are not people aggressive unless trained to be. this is an accident waiting to happen. that dog needs to be put down. this dog has not been raised properly and it will be difficult to find someone who can change his/her temperment. this dog was not aggressive towards a man, it was aggressive towards a person.

I hate how everyone is so quick to say put the dog to sleep when they've never even seen it.

I can't tell you how many dogs I have seen that were slated to be euthanized because of problems such as this, and went on to make great pets.

Don't be so quick to play the euthanize card when you are basing it on someone's interpretation and you've never even seen the dog.

THEY HAVE HAD THE DOG FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. HE SLEEPS IN THE HOUSE, THEY TAKE HIM PLACES WITH THEM THEYTREAT THE DOG JUST LIKE THERE OTHER WITCH IS A SPOLIED THING. THE DOG IS REAL SKETCHY I HAVE SEEN HIM I DID NOT EVEN WANT TO PET HIM B/C OF THE LOOK ON HIS FACE. I'M NOT USUALLY SCARED OF DOGS BUT THIS ONE I WAS.

  18. rocksteady

    rocksteady I'll drink to that..

But Remember.. its not like people want to put the dog to sleep, its that there are so many GREAT LOVING dogs out there being pts with NO questionable problems. Sometimes we have to pick and choose battles carefully..I see no giant money tree growing to supply a never ending amount of funds to support every stray or rescue dog out there..and In a perfect world where everyone loves pit bulls and we have no bad news reports about how they mauled a 2 yo, it would be feesable to help every single one of them.. but unfortunetly this is NOT a perfect world. Lifes not fair ...

Yes, every dog deserves the chance regardless of age, temperment.. but facts are facts and the fact of the matter is for every poor dog like this one someone puts time and money into, there are at least 5 -6 great trustable dogs that get pts ...

I think if the right home could be found for the dog then great..if they are willing to spend time and take the responsiblity forthe dog then by all means..have at it but after 6 months and no changes in this dogs behavori towards men?

Giving a dog a chance is one thing. But after 6 months and the dog still is bad around men, then it might be time to question the dogs core temperment and wonder if the damage done is now irreversable. But then, like I stated its up to the people taking care of the dog. By no means should that dog be passed around unless the person willing to take the responsiblity is EXPERIENCED and completely understands.

I totally agree with GSD. It is already a constant battle for the breed. Another accident will only result in more bad publicity. Do we really need to give the MEDIA and other groups more to talk about? The old fella has had it bad enough already, do you really think it will get better for him at the pound? Or let's say someone were to adopt him out and an accident happens? Looks like he'd be going circles, repeat pattern all over again. Or worse, they decide to take matters into their own hands. Not very humane now is it?

This dog is NOT all pit it is crossed with Boxer:

These are of paramount importance in the Boxer. Instinctively a hearing guard dog, his bearing is alert, dignified, and self-assured. In the show ring his behavior should exhibit constrained animation. With family and friends, his temperament is fundamentally playful, yet patient and stoical with children. Deliberate and wary with strangers, he will exhibit curiosity, but, most importantly, fearless courage if threatened. However, he responds promptly to friendly overtures honestly rendered. His intelligence, loyal affection, and tractability to discipline make him a highly desirable companion. Any evidence of shyness, or lack of dignity or alertness, should be severely penalized.

So the Boxer in him could cause him to have guardian tendencies....you cannot use an APBT temperment standard to size this dog up especially with his backround. Not sure what I would do....tough call, Good Luck
