Like someone stated before. Winning one has no need.
But it's normally the bottom one that shows concerns about heart be it test or show.
But a lot will bullshit in a test & ask to break early & ask for a courtesy , not to see what's in there's but to break the other ones rythem & have it a chance to get out of the bottom.
If there's get a chance to get on top & look good, they'll lie ,play dumb & forget about there's about to quit.
Punks doing a punk moves & nothing more because they see the quit in there's .
Hail Mary move to get out trouble before it happens. There's quit.
    That goes for testing.
In a actual show some one may just want o know, keep or cull before leaving & nothing more than that.
Either way, test or actual show, It depends on the person & there character that you are dealing with.
If the one requesting a courtesy has a problem because you won't give him one , tell him to just come back another day & just re-due the whole event wit new competition.
    His problem not the winners.
A lot don't care about the best dog , they just look for new ways to get around the truth.

oh i do understand em, i just dont see them as a perfect set of rules. I dont feel a courtesy scratch should be done to show people the winner is game, i think it should be mandatory to perform a courtesy to even be able to call yourself the winner and collect the money.

You do NOT fully understand Cajun Rules if you want to make a courtesy scratch mandatory and its the same reason why you dont see them as a solid (I wouldnt say perfect) set of rules.

You see its ok to modify Cajun Rules only IF your modifying it for the BETTER but to make it better you would have to fully understand and comprehend Cajun rules in the first place to begin with in WHICH you bmf bt do NOT fully understand them. So if your trying to modify something you dont fully understand your only going to make it worse especially if your making a courtesy scratch mandatory in Cajun Rules and it would be very hard pressed to find others that will accept those new terms of making a courtesy scratch mandatory.

This Topic is getting too deep Im done lol

I thought a courtesy was for the pick up loser. As in - Would you (the winner) do me the COURTESY of allowing my charge to scratch so I can see if it's just his body that's broke and not his spirit.Thank you

OK Lets just say I have a blind dog thats ahead and she gets set down wrong because of excitement. She cant find her comp because of everythingthing that goes on. She doesn't make the count because she wasn't set down right. Shes counted out. Both courtesy... The one that couldn't find her comp on the last sctrachtch made her scratch when blind and set down right courtesy...the other one stood. Lost to a cur.

Courtesy scratching has nothing to do with scratch to win. It's done AFTER the outcome has been determined. It is as Revolution posted.

Courteousy is exactly that, a courteousy that is extended from one oponent to the other. Its not enforcable because it has absolutely nothing to do with the result except, if its granted, to show if the dog was prepared to continue despite the match being over already. So making a courteousy mandatory is a contradiction in itself as something thats mandatory isnt granted as a courteousy but is enforced. Hope I make sense.

bad idea for winning side ,,,, tail scratch is a waste because its not completed and who would want to let a loser complete a scratch into the winner alot can go wrong so yes courtesy scratch is silly in my eyes .... if you cant tell by holding the dog in your arms it will go then oh well get a new sport,,,,,

Im a little late to the thread but here are my thoughts. Courtesy is just that, a courtesy extended. So it can be excepted or declined. There are senarios where it should be used and otheres where it shouldnt but the choice is always up to each party to extend and except or deny the courtesy. If a dog is a winner and is screaming in the corner to be realesed then it is absolutely stupid for the loser to allow the courtesy scratch. However if a winner has been scratching progressively slower in the event and his owner dosent think he will come again, its in the owners best intrest to ask for a courtesy. I am damn sure not getting on the highway and riding with a banged up cur win, lose, or draw. On another note i agree with @bmf if someone believes in the cajun rules which were designed to be a scratch in turn contest then i think people should have to scratch to win.

no one said anything about cajun rules everyone knows the rules or should ... courtesy is just that courtesy like it or not use it or dont your choice. no one has to scratch to win its in turn you dont come you lose period.

Cajun Rules were brought up in this thread. How can you find the gamer of two contestants if both arent allowed to show their willingness to continue. Pre '76 there were a lot of people who stipulated the winner must scratch to win. On a scratch to continue you have to scratch to win. A mandatory scratch to win wouldnt cause harm to the breed it would only better it. Jmo.

So if a ref calls a foul on a dog, you have to scratch to win.....no thanks...defeats the purpose of rules......might as well be a royal rumble....

courtesey scracth, scratch to win, what ever you wanna call it. I dont want to lose to a dog thats about to quit. If his charge did one, measly 8 count scratch at 30 mins and mine stops, on top, at 1.30 after beating his screaming cur for 60 mins i wanna see his dog take a hold before i pay up. This should be agreed upon before the show.

IMO, you should be better than your opponent and that means showing more than him, eg. scratching when he wont. It has nothing to do about showing of your dog or proving anything to nobody.

Saiyagin: Obviously cajun rules are lost on me. What, if not giving the best and/or gamest dog a fair chance to win, is the purpose of the rules? The rules are solid, but not perfect. Some people act like god himself wrote em and questioning them or wanting to add to them is blasphemous.

@ Torresbeag, I dont think anybody is suggesting that a foul should require you to scratch to win. Its when the opponents dogs stops.

Some of y'all are taking this way past what it really is. Courtesy scratching a picked up dog has NOTHING to do with the match. Dogs that have already stopped are not a consideration when it comes to courtesy scratching a picked up dog. They've stopped.....game over. Courtesy scratching is NOT scratch to win. It's AFTER the outcome has been determined. It is a courtesy, agreeable to the winner, for the losing handler to see if his dog will go after picking it up. And if done right, and not done by some dillweed trying to scratch a dog that should be taken out and administered to instantly, it has it's place. Some of you are reading way more into it than what it is.
