A Friend Of Mine Has A Pit She Rescued From A Kill-shelter When He Was Only 2 Months Old. He Is Now 2 Years Old & She Is Having Problems With Him Being Aggressive Towards Family Members. Ive Never Dealt With Anything Like This Because Leo Has Always Had Dog Aggression, Not Humans! He Can Play With Cats, But Damn If He Will Tolerate Another Dog. So He's Our Only Pit! Well- She Said He If He Is Sitting On The Couch & She Tries To Move Him, He Growls At Her. I Told Her To Leave Him Alone When He Does That. My Husband Went Over There Yesterday & Muzzled Him Before Her Kids Got Home Because Its Too Cold To Leave Him Outside & Her Kids Safety Obviously Comes First! I Know That Isnt Very Good Training, But It Was A Quick Fix Before Her Kids Got Home. She Said Its Been Gradual (she Should Have Tried To Address This Earlier) And I Wanna Know What You Guys Think.....

personally i would get rid of the dog...people aggressive dogs are usally poor bred dogs..and is to much of a liability...dog aggression is natural and exspected ...

I'm thinking not a good sign. What would/has happened if she tried to reprimand him when he growls? does he come back at her? First, I personally would never ignore a dog doing this, he knows he has gotten away with it again and again, he has learned if I do this, they will stop doing that.

if its been gradual its because the dog started showing dominance and she let it. she should have wacked the crap out of it the first time it growled at her. she can try retraining it but she may find out she has raised a bad dog and it needs to be put down.

2nd scenario dog has hearing or sight problems and it is starting to show.

3rd its sick and wants to be left alone.

4th shes afraid of her own dog and has let him have his way for too long.

Im Thinking She's Afraid Of Him. She Said He Did Jump Back At Her Husband One (not Acceptable In My Home!). I Dont Condone Beating Your Animal, But I Will Tell You That When Leo Was 7 Months Old He Lunged At Will After Leo Spanked Him & Will Whipped His Ass! He Let Him Know Who The Boss Was In Our House ( I Am Really But Thats A Whole Other Topic! Lol). Wills Motto Is- Ill Be Damned If I Feed You, Give You A Warm Loving Place To Live, And Your Gonna Bite Me? After That Ass Whippin Leo Knows Better! And He Was Young Enough, And It Was The First Time He Ever Showed Human Aggression & The Last! Im Not Thinking She's Gonna Be Able To Keep Him. She Has Two Young Kids.

OMG, not worth the risk with little kids. It is so hard to euth. them, it is heartbreaking. I see that to be the only answer at this point. they would be more sorry if something bad happens.

yeah im not condoning kicken your dog around all the time but when they threaten to bite you and they may do it once when they are little you have to let them know that their threats will result in your action.

Will Only Did It Once- And Weve Had No Problems Since! I Almost Threw Him Out Over It But He Said "jennifer What Would Your Mom Do If You Hit Her- She'd Spank You!"
And I Understand That- Im Not Having A Pitbull Run My House! I Have A Child As Well!!!

yeap if she cant even touch the dog without a growl its gonna go bad if she corrects it for anything or the kids fall on it while its sleeping or something. someones gonna get bit and putting it down is the not the only way this dog doesnt need to find a new home or anything like that it needs help. but SHE DOESNT NEED A NEW DOG TO POSSIBLY RUIN if she euths this one. dont ruin a second dog. see if you can help this one. if not your a bad owner get a cat.

I Knew That Was What Needed To Be Done. I Appreciate You Guys' Help. The Dog Is Still Wearing The Muzzle From Yesterday. Its The Mesh One In My Photo Gallery So He Can Still Eat & Stuff. I Guess This Is Her Only Option, When You Have Kids You Cant Take Chances!

I am with you, I am the boss at my house. She can't leave the muzzle on all the time, what is she going to do when she takes it off? Does the dog where a choke chain?

Poor training from puppyhood is almost always the cause! You can't leave a dog muzzled like that. Not only is it unhealthy for the dog but it isn't his fault that his owners raised him improperly. When puppies play and are allowed to growl, nip and do everything else that people think is "cute" they set their behaviors. Now that the dog is 2 and has been allowed to act a certain way for so long he doesn't see any issue being the dominant alpha in the household. Your "friend" should invest in some training with a canine behavior specialist especially since the dog is only acting the way it was ALLOWED to act. As bad as it sounds, your "friend" is the one that raised the dog and now she should get the proper training the dog deserves to help fix the problems they created. 90% of the time these are behavioral issues that the owner has caused. A dog shouldn't have to be touched to get off a couch. They should get down as soon as the owner requests. There is a HUGE difference between human aggression which is flat out attacking anyone they can get ahold of and poor training. This is an obvious case of poor training. You can't hold the dog responsible for acting the way it has been allowed to act. Your "friend" is entirely responsible for this behavior.

How can you tell her to euthanize a dog that is only acting the way that it was raised? Do not listen to his poor advice. This dog is not displaying human aggression. The dog is displaying total dominance in the household. This can be untrained and should be attempted especially since it is your "friends" fault. Feel free to print my responses out and show your friend. You can't raise a dog like you raise a kid. A dog needs to know who is boss and when it is time to listen and behave. Your "friend" never taught the dog that it isn't dominant. Don't make the dog pay the price for getting stuck with a poor owner.

I hope your friend doesn't listen to all this ignorant advice. The dog has a full chance to make it if your friend is willing to undo the problems they created. This can be UNTRAINED.

I Dont Know What To Do! I Totally Agree Its Very Poor Training, But She Has A 2 Year Old & A 4 Year Old. She Is Scared Now- And I Know The Dog Can Sense It. Im Gonna Ask Her If Maybe We Can Take Him & Will Can Start Working With Him On This. We Will Just Have To Seperate Our Dog From Hers, Which Wont Be A Problem Because Leo Goes To Work With Will During The Day ( They Ride Around And Leo Gets To Play At All The Sites). Baxter (aggressive Dog) Can Stay At The House With Me All Day, Im Not Scared Of Him. But He Will Have To Stay Outside During The Daytime. Then When Will Gets Home He Can Do His Thing- I Guess...

What do you suggest? I know what I do in training an aggressive dog that the owners want to save, but then the dog respects me and goes home to the same people that don't have the will to keep the training going.
