Plan for my pup

When pups first start eating their own feed, I mix them a gruel. Contains a lot of goodies and nutrients, of course. Burger, oatmeal at times, rice, cottage cheese, a high grade canned as it attracts them well. I mix a little fifty/fifty goat milk and water the first few days. I don't do it for long as it will cause some diarrhea if continued too long.

Once they are out of the kennel barn and in the big 32x16 corral type pen outside, I free-feed them and I prefer Diamond natural or Diamond Extreme Athlete, or both. They have, of course had their initial inoculation and have Sul-met in their fresh water.

One cannot stand there all day and see which little feed grubber is getting the most. This is why I just free-feed as if they are fat and sassy, fine, as that's the way I prefer a rather infant pup. It can do them no harm to be little pigs and be roley Poley. In fact, it gives them more dissipation cushion if a malady should occur.

Once they reach the chain, they get excellent kibble. A lot of it at first, then as they adapt to the chain and begin to mature, they get quite enough feed yet not an overload. I've had one house dog live to be 19, another 18, and outside dogs live to be over 17, twice and 3 or 4 times to 16 1/2. So, good nutrition is important, yet the mad science of feeding more exotic ways, while fine and dandy, vs the way I have always fed mine, to me, clearly shows that there is much more to good dog care than feed ALONE.

Thanks for the post TDK,cant go wrong there.
High end feed is proven better on the overall health and longivity just as human food.
usually high enfd food is ballenced well and need no suppliments.
The cheaper the food , more fillers and poorer souces of protiens dont help a dogs system without proper suppliments.
Like TDK posted The midgrade food with some suppliments seems better than the low w/alot of sup. or high grade with none. Because the sources of protien are better and you can ballance the rest with suppliments. Those with alot of dogs and sense can eyeball a dog and tell what a dogs missing and knows not suppliment too much. All custom tailored to the individual.
Low grade foods are hard on dogs kidneys & livers and need suppliments to flush them propery. While high end foods usually are ballenced enough to flush them all the time.Low grade food also have poor sources of calcium phosphrus that make the bones grow big too fast and brittle.A good source of calcium builds smaller dense bones and teeth.
Raw feeding is an art and if ballanced right is unbeatable ...We all cant be artist even though wed like too...

I think you will like it. Its a very good dog food. The only issue i ever have had with it was feeding it in the winter. They stay too lean on it so I have to switch them in the winter. Fed TOTW as an all life stage diet for years now. Other than the price tag and size of bags, its the best food I've come across for my dogs (and i've tried many different brands and still do from time to time). I think you and your pup will be happy with the results. Good looking pup by the way and Good luck.

I am partial to the performance feed made by Orijen and the performance feed made by Red Paw. Not designed for pups, so I'm off topic a shade, and God only knows I couldn't feed either to a whole yard of dogs, but I wouldn't hesitate to use either in a keep.

Never heard of red paw. I'll look it up. I'm not against any ideas for when she grows into adulthood
