I was going to snag one off this but ol' boy Chico wants $4,600 for a PUP. Not even a High School graduate. Not really worried about the money but I dont like to send money and wait on a dog. I want to see Sire / Dam / Pup myself up front and from what I'm told that isn't acceptable. So I'll take my $5k else where. Thinking about something from Invictos. Already talked to him and he doesn't have any issues with a yard visit . Especially when big $$$$$ involved. Who would you all go with ?

I understand the closed yard concept. But I don't understand 4600 for a pup, not at all.

nice breeding! Sire breeding seems phenomenal. Do you think it's worth it for 4,500USD? Do people pay that much for a pup? Maybe the sire has something special

It's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done......?

If you have to ask the question then you are not as comfortable with your choice as you think. Test?? If the dog is for sale it's for a reason..
I would rather buy a untested prospect rather then one they say is good to go.. The dog has to be average of less if it's up for sale.. A good dog would not be let go.. IMO

You seem like a newbie... To be straight I personally think you are getting fucked..
If you really have to ask the question about a top secret breeding... From a top secrete person for a secrete price. Something don't sound right cause if that shit is so special then you would not get it with the intentions you have to breed the dog.

Chico like a lot of other dogmen don't want nobody they don't know or trust visiting their yard and I agree with that sentiment. He also charges that to folks he don't know are dogman, why should he give someone a $500 pup when they gone use his name and his work to breed pups and make $$$..

I hope you take this constructively. I can't help thinking that if you aren't sure you want to buy this dog, and aren't sure WHY you want to buy the dog, then you haven't familiarized yourself enough with some learning experiences to buy this or any dog right now. While there are people more private than others, there are no secrets that anyone holds that no one else is privy to. If these dogs were to be of such ilk, then why would he be willing to peddle one to you?

My advice to you is the same as it always is to first time buyers of dogs. DON'T BUY ONE until you gain some experience and knowledge, along with familiarity of dogs which may be made available to you.

I Agree ! Big money, IMO a yard visit is a must. However, In 2009 i paid 40k for RACE Engine from Leroy Davis Racing engines, Site unseen.... For my 1969 Super Stock Z-28... And that was a Cheap one ! You got to pay to play..........

Good post, Nothing else needs to be said. I will add this for the original poster, private stock or not there are NO guarantees and you can take that to the bank all day. GL

"Private Stock" is a puppy peddler's favorite marketing term. They're selling the whole litter and pricing it as if some sucker doesn't have to spend 12-15 months on feed, housing and health care just to have an opportunity to find out if they can do everything else well enough to see if the dog inherited some gameness, ability, and other traits from the parents and to what degree. Do you even know the parents traits that well? Do you know much about when those traits solidified in their lives?

You're talking about buying a pup from "private stock" and then breeding a cold or cur dog and then cull from that...????? That is doing the whole thing backwards. You're also asking if it's ok to buy puppies to breed them regardless of how they turn out.

Imo private stock means it ain't offered to someone that needs to come here and ask weather or not they should risk it
