would you pick an untested dog?

I am present an opportunity to own a potentially awesome dog. The dog is truly truly well bred, adding to that parents are solid working bulldogs, real good winners. Both parents are really well bred in every way. What makes this special is these dogs are of private stock, not normally available to public.

The problem is the dog is still young and untested, and comes with a hefty price tag.

What are you guys opinions? Would you pick this dog? Would you take the risk?

Any pup is a gamble no matter how well bred or proven the parents are I think if the breeder is breeding for the right reasons then it has just as good a chance as any an depends on how you plan on utilizing the dog, but let him grow an find out.

I'll pay for a good bred pup off proven parents from a proven camp.. Your chances of getting something worth while is higher with someone who has consistently got working dogs then someone with cheap pups who just sticking dogs together..

All the prior posts seem to have it wrapped up. If Rock n Rye woulda snuck it in a lil earlier it would have been said in just about perfect order. LOL

How much potential do you have is the question? Do you have what it takes to bring the cream to the top.? The money you spent, is it not your average purchase? What do you consider a gamble? Do you believe in that blood that your willing to keep coming back even if it doesn't turn out? Is there a replacement if it doesn't hunt?

To me if you are thinking of dropping that chunk of change then you already think it might be worth it.

Take price out the pic. They turn out or they dont. There is a point though if a fella asking the same money for the truth vs unknown.

That's the thing. If it doesn't turn out, then what, is it worth taking this chance. What if it grows up to be a non-matching dog. Should I breed the dog? It has great genetics behind, and cull hard, keep the rest. Or is it worth getting a ready proven dog, not as pretty breeding, then, I know what I am getting, hard tested, game one.

A ped would help. There are people I wouldn't pay $1 for a tested dog and there are others whose breedings and word is priceless. If you have one post it.

Umm why would you breed a cull?? Sounds like you just want to know if you spend money on this dog that you are able to get your money back. Let me start off by saying this chances are that you will spend entirely more than you will ever get back. It's always going to cost you, might cost you a little might cost you a lot but it's going to cost you.

What is your purpose and what you trying to accomplish, are you looking to be a breeder or are you looking to be a competitor in weight pull hang contests or maybe go coon, badger & hog hunting. You have to know and understand your purpose before going about it. The questions you are asking, I dont know your connections or what not but you might want to get someone that you could help work on their yard to get to know your dogs lineage before getting a pup or young dog.

Damn, I typed this already then my computer crashed. I'll re-write what I typed 'I definitely want to breed the dog in the future, I am not that big as a competitor. If I buy this, and it turns out, then GREAT. If not, that I would have truly waste my money. Maybe instead, I should buy a tested dog, lesser fancy pedigree, but I know what I get, then breed in the future.

    What would you do?
