If I had to start over I would pretty much lean towards what I have now but sooner in my dog life and try to find some Giroux blood from as close as the man as I could find or just not start at all and save myself all the heartache and dollars hahahhaha

I think what natureboy means is that u would be surprised at how average our stock can become if you don't travel and its true IMO...its not for every one though some people not willing to chance anything these days.

Without knowing better I would hope I would go the same direction. I was told to go that direction and it took my about 5 years of wasting time and money before I finally did. So hopefully if I had to start over I would listen a little sooner. Lol

Would still start with what I have now. Maybe I would have aquired some thing similar to what I have right now to compliment them like the Rebel's Sundance / Yellow crosses we had here way back through Kojack x Alex. But Im happy with my old school dogs (old school for Southern Africa that is).

Right! Spent a lot of dollars just to figure out that what an old dogman told me turned out to be true, "You don't choose a bloodline, the bloodline chooses you".

???? Really????? Again it all boiles down to preference.. But if you want me to do the math this is how I see it.
If 1out of 5 make the cut would you agree that genetically that dog is superior??? We all know genetics are passed down that's a no brainer but the key is getting your superior genetics to reproduce itself.. Again we all know that is not always the case.. Why is that?? It happens because there is a broken link somewhere in the gene pool and that representation was reproduced.. Now if you go back let's say four gens and have a wealthier gene pool the chances of that broken link coming forward are less.
So if you start building your gene pool with less broken links you will have better percentages as the gene pool starts to eliminate the broken links. So my point is that the further back this process starts your gene pool richer and stronger your genetics become.
That is just my view on genetics... IMO genetics does not determine gameness. I personally think that comes from upbringing. Again that's just my opinion. If you give your athlete the confidence and tools to win you have done your part.

Really! I know in my case some of the best dogs I have ever owned I did not pay for and was not from the blood I was running. It seems to me it comes down to prepotency, which dogs are more apt to producing themselves or better, and a lot of times finding that dog is the result of research but many times it has more to do with luck than anything else.

if gameness comes from upbringing why worry about breeding 'game' dogs if you could just teach a dog to scratch?

I think they will all stop... It's about finding their threshold.
If gameness was a gene I personally think it would be isolated and possibly used for a lot more then just dogs. Jmo

you think wrong, just because you haven't seen a truly game dog doesn't mean they don't exist and no amount of "upbringing" will make a dog go across, gameness resides in the heart and soul of a dog, if you are ever witness it you will understand what this breed is all about, until then your opinions are just that..opinions. a fool reveals himself through his opinions
