I dislike the look of barrel doghouses normally but that right there looks pretty nice and easily built. If I lived further south I would try one of those for sure, hell I might just try anyways and built one for the new spot I'm putting in the ground this spring. I just don't trust the barrels in our winters since you really cant insulate it except with the straw that goes in it, which isn't enough insulation here.

  6. Agk I hear the barrel house r fine in the winter there as thick as a igloo house

yehh!! thats where I started alaskan huskies... ewwweeee... boy let me tell ya them old school mushers and dogmen and the context of work and a dog proven through work and thats what ya breed well.. it all falls in together. Where I learned to feed raw and grool using stomach and intestine lnings with other organs and boiling it up along with how to keep your dog hydrated through frozen raw foods game, fish, and such. I left wolves, and sled dogs shortly after I caught the bulldog fever in late 99/00, Thanks alot for sharing!!! Very cool to see other bulldoggers like too!!!

    ??? Please share.

Same here. Barrels don't look ''nice''. I've had a couple out in the country and they work just fine, but to the untrained eye they are a sore. But, with the wood covering, this doesn't look bad at all. I personally like the idea of an insulated wooden doghouse with a removable barrel, but I'm too lazy to make it happen. :/

If you ever decide to do it Ides, you'll like em. I don't plan on going to any other design now that I've done those.

I like these they look better and keep em up off ground in winter and have shade for summer but after this cold winter I think I'm gonna build the insulated ones like treepitz built. My dogs doin ok but the insulated ones definately make them more comfortable and I wouldn't have to worry about the wind blowin in on them. We've had some nasty winds this winter reaching -35 with the wind chill. I got my dogs so fat right now they're lookin like American bullies

Jlusk, I don't think you can go wrong with having both in one. During summer pull the barrel out and screw a piece of wood to it so it doesn't roll and unscrew one of the holes on the opposite side of the entrance hole so there's a little air movement through there. Colder days throw it in the insulated house. I'll see how warm it is this summer in both and determine which one is cooler in the TX heat.

I like the design above because it knocks out the house and a shade spot in one. But I dislike it because it's so high to get in that a younger dog wouldn't be able to easily get in there if he could at all. Therefore it might discourage the dog from getting in there even if he was able to. And I'm sure the majority of dogs down south end up living through the winter in barrels. But with my luck, I'm not willing to bet my dogs life on it. Since I've been down here we've had some surprisingly cold winter days to make me think different than I did before I moved here.

  13. It's very boring task to make a pet's house as they might feel congestion in a small box-type room. As much I know about pets, they love to live with us in our room. They feel affectionate about it.

i mean, im sure they do.... my housedogs love being in the bed.... unfortunately, with this breed.....its no bueno....... more than one in the house and your asking for trouble. if you breed & show dogs, naturally.. your gonna gave more than one....

Mine sit and look at me at the back door when I bring them in to give them house time, they'd rather be out on the chain. I don't blame them, no rules out there. Birds and animals to bark at, dig holes, run around, chew on things, etc. All dogs might be different but I believe most APBTs would prefer to be outside if they had a comfortable living situation outside (shade, shelter, etc.)
