The red (liver) nose is a disqualification for a SBT in the show ring, and although it sometimes pops up in SBTs, it is not common in the breed. The fact that is a disqualification is a purely cosmetic choice, and some think it's silly. But based on that, and the overall appearance of your dog, I also think she is probably APBT. She looks like a good dog. It sounds like the breeder who sold her to you didn't deal straight with you. I would ask again for the registration papers, or just tell him that you like the dog, but want to know her true breeding.

Red nose types are beautiful dogs. I do like the ones that are all copper particular .
I always figured the Irish strains played a positive roll in the creation of fighting dogs.
Thats a weakness of Amstaff or SBT , not to include .
But I guess they had concerns of some show winning reds taking over the look.

I am not aware of any reason other than a somewhat arbitrary choice that the SBT breed standard only allows black (with some allowance for lighter black based on coat color). There is no structural, mental or health weakness inherent in red nosed dogs. I think one thing the writers of the breed standard wanted was to distinguish the breed from other breeds, and potentially because they wanted to separate the show SBT from "working dogs." That is too bad, and we know now, from observation, that breeding for show can develop dogs that are unable to perform at their originally-intended tasks.

ourgalsunday, are you in the UK? If you don't want to disclose your location, I understand.

I too tsuspect the recessive nature of the OFRN in appearance is probably the reason why those types are excluded from competing in the UKC and AKC sandpit.:wagtail:

Shes a backyard bred dog so there is no papers we didn't no what backyard breeders where at the time or even no about breeders as they were our first dogs we just bought them of the internet and presumed that if you saw the parents that was fine was quite naive really ! but we went to the house they showed us a male sbt and told us it was the father but they also said he doesn't like the puppy and tries to attack it so they will but him upstairs and get the mother and pup out so the pup came out with another SBT i didnt realize untill i got home that the so called mother didn't have big teets if she would have just had a litter wouldn't she have large teets for milk :\ we got her anyway and i wouldn't changed her for the world but as she got older it became quite obvious she wasn't an SBT. I did speak to a guy who had a APBT that he got from a kennel in the same small town were i got my dog he said she looks like one of the pups from a sire dog there and said he will speak to the dogs owner show him pictures of my dog and ask him if he recognizes her and would get me some pictures of the suspected sire dog i never thought id hear from him again but a couple of weeks later my inboxed was flooded with pictures of a dog and puppies that looked like the twin of my dog and the same color etc so that got me thinking
