How can I bring my dog some confidence?

you need something more like a boston terrier, good in apartments, confident n you can pull em off other dogs quite easy. but to me it just seems like you want a typical "mean" pitbull. You don't want the aggression to come surface at the park on or off lead. it is kind of a hassle and embarrassment when you cant handle your dog. You even have to watch it on lead. i had a dog called crazy eyes, he used to get this look and then turn into the tazmanian devil and screaming almost choking himself with the leash everytime we passed a dog. be happy for your enviroment you have the dog you have.

I know I just joined but this post got to me and I usually don't judge people but this is pure ignorance people like you are the reason why I can't walk my dog with out getting eye balled for having a pit. These dogs are known to be dog aggressive and more than not at some point in time they will show it .lets all hope yours is the one out of ten that's not because it will be a head line when you dog crushs a poor lil yappy ass chihuahua head in a downward zip of your zipper on your useful bookbag and then give bsl more shit to judge our dogs that real pit men and women try so hard so contain we r lucky that nothing happens when we drive thirty miles just to walk our companions and you put all of our dogs at risk every time you go to the park. And trust me when something happens to one of them toy foofoos yours and our dogs suffer not you our breed for your ignorance .

Thanks for everyone's reply, I know dog park is really a bad idea and think I have explained myself well enough in former posts. Dog park is an option that I think is ok to my current situation. Chiwa is an example and I think I am really happy to see that my dog is willing to protect me in that case, you mean kill it? LOL if I am attacked by a stray dog I dont mind my dog killing it, in that case. How many of you will protect a dog that is loose leash and intruding you? Be it Chiwawa or loose leash rotweiler? If a dog is loose leash and intruding you, won't you guys be relying on your dogs to do something? Just simple as that, I know pitbull is not protection dog so if it is ok that he won't do that, I am just curious to know yes I can expect or no I should not expect that, better prepare some spray right?

That doesn't mean he plays with chiwawa, he plays with boxer, staffy, ridgebacks and others or mainly I play with my dogs with other dogs presence, if you guys think that an apbt can finish theses breeds in any really short time, personally I think you are wrong. Not every dog is zebo or whatever, LOL, but again, I said, I am not going to take him to the dog park forever.
Thanks AGK for the warning about that would be way harder when it really happens, that is what I think I am not serious enough, LOL.
And guys take a look at Ganja's post, her two apbts get along most of the time, as she mentioned in her post.
All I have learnt is isolating is one of the elements make a dog aggressive, not socilizing. Dog park is not a good idea for apbt (I agree) doesn't mean apbt needs no socilization.
Some people in my community keep their apbt away from everything, they end up getting a dog that is pulling to hell when they see other living animals. Crying, howling and launching towards them when they walk their dogs and really have no tolerance in other animals' presence I don't see any positive images they are passing to the public.

Thanks for all replies, I learnt alot. Take care guys!

You may have learned alot but imo its obvious you haven't/don't want to take experienced ppls advice. Do as you want but the way you talk.....it'll only be a matter of time until something happens that you'll regret. good luck.

Pittgal stop thinking about the what if's? Base your judgments on your individual dog and dont worry about how others act at a certain age. Every dog is different and will grow/mature different both mentally and physically. Some are born running and others need time. The more you are confident with that specific dog the more they will know and express that confidence naturally. So find out whatever gets them to work for your needs. You have a pup and a baby at that, so treat them like a baby. Do you take a baby to the play ground to get beat up by kids of all ages? What happens to a kid when they get beat up on the playground enough anyone will tell you; eventually they get older bigger and stonger and after all the beatings they dont take no shit no more! I promise no matter what the petbull its just a matter of when. After one accident at the park you wont go back so why test the water you put everyone in danger including yourself. You are the one that instills "confidence" and you are also the one that can ruin it. Maybe that analogy will help you. Since your concerned about the variables then eliminate them all and give more 1 on 1 with your pup. Flirt pole or any good hands on will give you and them what your looking for. There is no replacement for experience, just give the pup and yourself more time. Be patient.

I can't believe you came on here looking for advice on how to get your dog to jump on another dog (in public) at that! Give that mutt away and get you a real dog! Get you one of those huskies you spoke on. They ought to make you happy.

Thanks for everyone's reply, I know dog park is really a bad idea and think I have explained myself well enough in former posts. Dog park is an option that I think is ok to my current situation.

Until it isn't ok and an incident happens, your the only one on this thread that asking for help. The people who have given you advice have years into these dogs, some of them decades but hey what do we know

I can't speak for others but your wrong again, I would shoot a dog that was advancing on me unleashed before I would let one of my dogs to get himself/herself on the front page of the news papers to give more reason to ban these dogs. When a loose dog runs up to me when walking one of my dogs I will typically pick my dog up and get ready to put the boots to the other dog. I would never let one of my hounds get hold of another animal in public. People with your mentality are why people hate these dogs and would like to see them gone for good. Ignorance is bliss I guess..

That doesn't mean he plays with chiwawa, he plays with boxer, staffy, ridgebacks and others or mainly I play with my dogs with other dogs presence, if you guys think that an apbt can finish theses breeds in any really short time, personally I think you are wrong. You really just don't get it...

And guys take a look at Ganja's post, her two apbts get along most of the time, as she mentioned in her post.

So what, I have raised multiple dogs together for just shy of 2 decades, Doesn't mean that they are ok with other dogs. We also are talking about you in an enviorment where there will be other dogs your dog does not know. If an accident happens between any of mine it's confined to my home or yard not in front of a dozen or more people whom will now form the opinion these dogs shouldn't be owned and create a shit storm in the media because of yet another greenhorn thought they knew better and insists on taking their dog, whom is the product of centeries of DOGFIGHTING, to a place to make doggie friends and ends up on the news as yet another vicious Pit Bull attack.

All I have learnt is isolating is one of the elements make a dog aggressive, not socilizing. Dog park is not a good idea for apbt (I agree) doesn't mean apbt needs no socilization.

This is so retarded I won't even waste my time with a responce to it...

Some people in my community keep their apbt away from everything, they end up getting a dog that is pulling to hell when they see other living animals. Crying, howling and launching towards them when they walk their dogs and really have no tolerance in other animals' presence I don't see any positive images they are passing to the public.

Most ABPT's are this way. What part of centeries of selective breeding for animal aggression do you not get? Maybe you have a mix or a staffy or a amstaff, but if you have a real APBT and you take these risks with it then IMO your part of the fucking problem and should give that dog to someone with a fucking brain...

Thanks for all replies, I learnt alot. Take care guys!

    No you didn't.....

Yes, it felt like i was talking to my little brother telling him right from wrong but he is so narrowminded he only see's what he wants. She wants the "tough" dog. But i bet if thats what she ends up with ina few months she'll regret her wish. And letting him play with "tough" dogs wont make him more confident.

you know your going to get in trouble . if you think you can let your dog bite another and not get in trouble well you probably already know that .

Some how I missed those posts from the OP. You need to have a reptile not a dog..Forget I said anything what a waste. Matter a fact get some fish or something. Your non understanding of this breed and dogs in general is why BSL exists plain and simple.

  17. Dannyb

Well, you are nit going to build confidence in a puppy by taking it to a dog park and letting random mutts try mate with its face. Your dog is overwhelmed and really doesn't know what is going on.

You are supposed to protect your dog. Not put it in situations where it's confused and too immature to cope with. These are it's first experiences. How exactly do you want your dog to respond at a dog park?
