Puppy weight

Discussion in 'Staffordshire Bull Terriers' started by manitasdeplomo, Oct 15, 2013.

  1. Hello all,

I have a four month old pup and he already weighs 13.2kg or about 29lbs.
His sire is around 16kg(35lbs) and his dam around the same or a little lighter.

Do any of you guys remember how much your dogs weighed at that age in relation to their adult weight?

He isn't fat or anything except a little puppy fat which is normal I think, he is active, alert and happy. So I'm not really worried or anything but I'm just surprised that at this age he is already approaching the weight of his parents.

I will post some pictures as soon as I have my macbook back from repair. And for those interested here are the peds of his sire and dam:

  2. I don't know whether it's allowed to link to pedigree sites, if not, I apologize for that in advance.

I have read on various places and was told by my vet the weight at 4 months is typically half the adult weight

  8. I really hope that's not the case!! I already have an Ambull, and I wanted a smaller dog so I chose a staff.
Hopefully he'll start growing a little slower. I also read that puppies sometimes have periods where they hardly grow at all.

Some pups grow faster then others I bred my 40 lbs bitch to a 44lbs dog and all pups were over 40 lbs at 5 months I think ones only made 45 lbs at nearly a year so it's hard to say

My bandog was tiny as pup he's a 90 lbs dog now he was still filling out at nearly 3 years old lol

  12. It's now been a week since I've weighed him, and he's gained another kilogram. Still haven't gotten my macbook back so can't post pictures.

I really hope it's not going to mess with his joints and tendons.

Dam is 42 sire is a natural 39.5. My boy is sitting at 51 at just over 10 months lean and fit too. Look at the grand parents should add up. Maybe u got the runt of the litter.

  14. The runt of the litter means the smallest and weakest as far as I know. My pup is the exact opposite, he's very big for his age.

  15. I have 3 females of my 42 lbs male and 45 lbs female. But the female are just reaching 20 lbs and I have the runt she only 15lbs

Can't say for sure about SBT but I have noticed some small dogs ( others breeds ) grow super fast
like by 3 months there big and then they really slow down & in the long run are small dogs. The SBT is kinda a small dog in genetics so. I think if he is a SBT, a SBT is what you'll get.
But I bet once in a wile a big-en shows up.
