Hello! I have a question that's probably a no brainer, but I always get such good advice here. Cleo is my 3 yr old Pit, she is like other pit bulls, lovable, silly, and friendly. I've been wanting to get a puppy but partly because I think it would be good company for her, but mostly because I've just fallen in love with the breed. However, I'm wondering how should I integrate a male puppy with her with minimal amount of stress on her or the household. All comments are appreciated :)

YOU, not another dog, should be her company.

Hi Rallyracer, thanks for your response. I AM company for my dog, but having been the owner of three dogs at one time before, I also realize that dogs enjoy the company of other dogs as well as their owners.

Hi Bamaman, although I'm glad that you took the time to respond to my question I'm confused by the response. Simply "don't do it....period" doesn't exactly help me nor does it answer my question. Is there some insight that you can add on why I shouldn't add another dog to my family? If not, that's fine....again, thanks for your initial response.

APBTs dont need doggy friends. The way you putting it is having another dog for company when u not there which is a fail. APBTs can only play supervised so as long as u or someone there might as well just play with the damn thing.

  7. If you have a house dog I would go with just one dog. I have had multiple house dogs and it is a big pain. You will have to crate and rotate as most likely they wont get along when they mature. Never again will I have more then then 1 dog in the house. So much easier with one and a lot less stressful on everyone.

If you know what the breed was generally used for you'd understand why most are giving you the don't do it's. These dogs, on average, do not play well with others. I'm not saying that it's impossible as I have always raised multiple dogs together for the last 16 or so years, but it is a very big pain in the ass, more of a pain than the majority of the people out there really want to take on. If you do decide to take on that chore, keep in mind, they should never be left alone together unsupervised or you very well one day may come home to one dog and a very messy situation.

Just be prepared for the inevitable, total separation of them as adults.

I bad a multiple 3 dog living situation work for 4 years. It was a 1 Apbt household with 2 other non bulldog breeds. Put a long story short, the non bulldog got the bad end of it for a rough 3 minutes.

If you want a multiple household animal, get a different breed.

AGK, thank you for your advice. At one time I had an American Bulldog, English Mastiff, APBT and Shitzu Terrier mix, and they all did very well together. It does go without saying that I never allowed the three bully breeds to play unsupervised. But I agree with you it is a lot to consider, especially since I've never had 2 APBT's. thanks so much!
