Separating dogs

I'm sure this topic's been done,but more specifically for me if your dog gets attacked by a dog you think might turn around and bite you.

I've had it happen a few times to my lurcher and once to my mums westie and just punched the other dogs until they let go and walked/ran away.

So to get to the point can a strong dog escape a rear naked choke hold,or get into a position to bite you?

 

A strong dog will break out a rare naked choke and bite fire out of you

 

Have you tried it?

Your face is right by the dog so if it got loose you'd be in a bad way.

 

Not a good plan at all. You're off balance bending down and extending and putting your own neck very close to their mouth. Where are these dogs owners?

 

Lol i had this long thing written up but then realize how messed up it sounded,so i decided not to post it keep it away from you neck ,face and off your back. A good bite will paralyze whatever gets if it bites you arm most likely its not going to work for awhile. Think about if it got ahold of your face you have a 100 something degree breathe and drool suffocating you and thats not even including the bite itself the pressure crushind your head. Now most dogs anit shit a good hit will deter them buy a maneater well a maneaters another story lol.

i've always wondered if it would work tbh

obviously you cant test it out but if you put it on fast and properly,keeping their head down i just cant visualise how it would escape,not saying you're wrong btw that's just the theory lol

ah well i'll just keep using the patented blanch haymaker to keep these annoying stray mutts away.

 

its not like it happens all the time,just irresponsible owners who tend not walk their dogs all winter then once a week in summer,off lead.

never happens in winter.

 

If you try to choke a dog it's going to think that you're trying to kill it. Unless I really was going to kill it, I wouldn't want a dog thinking that I was trying to kill it....

 

If its got hold of my dog I don't care if I kill it.

If I lived in America I'd shoot or stab it.

 

Not much you can dog if a dog is attacking something hitting it will ususlly
just agitate it more unless its a smaller dog that would run off
it if you gave it a kicking

 

If the dog is really attacking your dog and not just playing rough then there are plenty of things you can do to disable it that don't involve wrestling it or blowing its head off. I'm not going to get into that though because I there's been no detail on specific set of circumstances. Have you been bitten?

 

I've been bitten a lot of times but never separating dogs, how do you get a dog off your dog if its going to turn on you straight away?

That's the worst case scenario,so that's what I will assume is going to happen.

 

A dog biting a dog or some kind of rabid cujo that's running wild killing anything that moves are very different things. A hyper and snapping dog thats not holding/driving/shaking/pulling is a world apart from one that is. IMO. Perhaps you could describe in more detail what happened, type of dog, approximate weight, where it happened, context, barking, charging, etc? Then I could give you suggestions. There is a good sticky thread in dog discussions on breaking up dogs. It's important to read the situation correctly and respond in the path of least harm to both animal and human.

 

I've never had a issue before,They ran over and and either bit or mounted my dog i cracked them hard on the nose and they ran off with me behind trying to kick them.

This just hypothetical really,there are bigger nastier dogs out there owned by idiots who would just as soon have a pop at me as my dog,especially If I get in the way.

 

I can separate my own dogs easily enough,but I just think if one of those dogs wanted me could I avoid getting bitten?

 

What can you lawfully carry where you live? What self defense weapons are banned?

 

If worse comes to worse you need to do whatever needs to be done to protect you and your dogs. I have had dogs off leash run up on mine, I try to step in front and redirect my dog and calmly move away. Since no particular bad situation has happened to you, I would suggest just being a strong leader and projecting a positive attitude. Give your dog confidence and comfort.

If you are concerned about you own safety with these people, check into some self defense classes. Do whatever you need to do to be safe. I would suggest not running after a dog that is already running away. Once it's turned to run let it go. Chasing a dog and trying to kick it, that is you being the aggressor. Collars break, people drop leashes and dogs do get loose, nobody is perfect. Just make sure you handle the situation as intelligently as possible. What country are you in? If you really feel threatened enough to carry anything but a break stick, make sure you learn how to use it competently. Getting a dog to release is covered in the thread I recommended previously.
