Dog bite

So my gf was walking our dog on the leash and him and another dog started lunging at each other and my dog bit my gf on the leg , nipped her while trying to get at the other dog, we have booked him in to get neutered on Monday , has anybody ever neutered a dog with a view to calming dog aggression

 

If the dog is over a year old you probally wont see much calming down, its very little if any at all.. Especially when around other dogs... Neutering wont change that.
Ive only had 2 dogs neuterd before and i didnt notice anything other than they couldnt reproduce.

 

There's no chance off that anyway , got him cheap with a deal I would take him back to the breeder to breed him once but he was too aggressive to even be introduced to the bitch, I have been putting it off but if I am not going to breed him I finally think I will give in and get it done, is there any other negatives of neutering I've heard it can cause your dog to loose muscle

 

Almost every dog I know of that was neutered to curb aggresion became more aggresive and not just toward's other dog's.

 

Another quick question will she need a tetnus jab as it broke the skin she only had one two years ago

 

They say their good for up to 5 years. I wouldnt really worry about it but if she thinks she should have one it wouldnt hurt. Ive been bit many times and never had a tetnus shot afterward. Clean it out good and she'll more than likely be just fine.

 

No, had one myself last week and Doc said I won't need another for 3 year's. Best for her to ring her Dr. If you want to breed of him you can alway's collect and store some semen before you cut his nut's of.

I don't think neutering is going to do anything to help your problem. I have never seen it change a dog at all.

AGK is right, the only thing it will guarantee is the dog being unable to reproduce. Dont place high hopes for things other than that. Although im not sure if testosterone is going to be decreased which I assume it will be in a neutered male? If so that may yield less aggression but also a lazier dog etc etc

 

The dog is as much hers as it is mines

 

It is a male , and he is walked for around 2-3 hours a day so i dont see getting lazy or gaining weight being a problem

 

Had a bitch used to that,more of nip/pinch...i soon cured her off it ......bit(pinch) her back....tip across the nose,she coped on very quick and never had any more problem's with her...

It won't reduce aggression but will probably cause him laze around more. He shouldn't loose muscle

 

If my GF wanted one of my dogs neutered I'd give her a historectomy
