Public- and private stock

Discussion in 'Breeder Discussion' started by friscofreak, Jun 18, 2013.

  1. So my question to you is with all the kennels selling puppies to the general public.Do you think that some are off such high quality that they can be world beaters.Considering the fact that most kennels sell puppies of parents(dam and sire) with no title and comes with a pretty pedigree behind their names.But...in the mean time they keep their private stock out of public viewing and gives it to their inner circle(friends). They keep the best hunters for themself and when they bred these bulldogs they won't sell the puppies to outsiders

There is no way to tell what puppy will be the best. The breeder should have an idea of what to look for in picking a pup that will work for you. Mountain Man said that he would just reach down and pick a pup up and he had more than good luck so I think the same could happen to anyone.

me personally I would pick the pup that's acting the way his sire / dam acted when they were pups what ever I was trying to reproduce I would keep the one resembling in appearance and behavior

If the pup is attentive, obedient with a mind of his own, strong willed, he sounds like the pup I'd take home. I'm not sure about what kennels do, but many have great dogs that represent the breed well

You can only sell bullshit for so long!!.
Primary stock in most cases is breeding stock. wich is compleatly diferend then performance stock..
We are going to offer to the publick soon. but the past has shown that some of the best where sold off . as you cant tell ore see witch pups are going to be the ones that stand out. Buy from breeders that sell the same stock they work with... iven then some combo, ore grown dogs are better then others... they might sute you while they dont do to other people..

My Grandpa has top notch rabbit dogs when I was coming along. He had four pens. The two in the front were males and females that were up and coming, some that had done all they were ever going to do. He swapped and sold from the front two pens. Some of these dogs were better than what most others were running in our area. The back two pens were dogs he hunted personally. They could not be bought. The front two pens were bred down from the back two pens but did not quite earn a spot in the back. They were given every opportunity they just did not measure up. These were for sale. Good dogs, just not as good as the ones in the back.
I imagine if a rabbit dog man could do it a bulldog man could as well. The reasons really do not matter. S

most public kennels with multiple breedings "just my opinion" feel they are making a living off of breeding, untested, papered mutts, just for money.

If I will be making a breeding, parents will be tested, and go to only working knls. But that is just me

  12. I agree with limey kennels with each new generation of sub-par apbt produced you wil get curs,etc...until they look more like your street pitbull with no hardware to back it up

Good stock os good stuck, regardless if its public or private. There is good and bad regardless of which category the dogs may fall under.

Well said. Good stock is good stock. The break happens when the good stock is not proofed within the breeding program. Private peddling is no different than public peddling. A good dog with no access is a good dog just like a good dog open to public stud or is still a good dog. S

  16. and thousands and thousands of other dogs ! there is no secret recipe !

  17. pups are pups regardless. but keep shit real & ask yourself would you sell your best to joe blow ?

  18. One thing is a fact when you got your best dog. I bet no one said this will be my best dog. For what ever the reason. I can bet more than half have had a dog you really didn't like that show up with boots on...
