I emailed Joe yesterday and haven't got a response yet, so I can't speak on the matter until I get the story from him.

Some of the largest yards in the world have been using them for years with ZERO problems, and they continue to order them, so I'm not wasting my time trying to fix something that isn't broke.

    Thanks,

    Shane

  2. Ben i never said the welds werec shity , i was just saying that as the weld and swivel joint/nut are diectly ontop of each other , i wondered if that would be a possible weak spot , as the constant hitting the end of a chain and the jarring might cause the nut part to snap more than a regular type swivel .I like thec new oval ring ahape , and i think that with the old swivel inside that new oval ring would be a better and more comfortable setup .

  3. Shane cant you make some of the new oval shape collar rings and put an old stlye swivel inside , as its another option for the customer ,and probably less work for you also.

Been a while since I have got anything from Stillwater but it all is holding up strong with no problems. I have collars and leads from 6 years ago that are going strong.

The welds on the small end are crap. There is not enough heat and not nearly enough weld there. Honestly looks like a tack weld we put on shit before laying the heat to it.

Been welding for over 20 years. In a family business of almost 40 years.

I would not send them out our shop and expect those glorified tack welds to hold up.

I speak the truth. Like it or not, those are facts from a highly regarded Master Fabricator.

  9. This statement may or may not be true, but this self-proclamation serves to tell me that nobody's welds besides your own would gain your approval. They seem to work for the 4999 other people who are using them.

The one i was refering to in my posts broke where the nut is welded in the middle of the swivel. Stillwater made good on his calling RMP last week ( keep in mind this happened back in november/december though and i'd hate to think this thread had anything to do with his calling other than coincidence in the timing). Joe has let it go since in reality, how do you replace a champion just starting his breeding career? You really cant. I dont know anything about welding. This was more than likely a fluke incident as its only one story out of thousands stillwater has in circulation. Im not trying to degrade stillwater either as the man makes some of the best, highest quality items for these hounds and is great to deal with as well as reliable and quick in his turn around time to get your items shipped to you.

Figured I would show some examples of what is considered proper welds and what is not. The welds on those swivels above are not safe and should never be trusted.

Here is my swivels, before anyone asks they are not for sale nor do I want to sell any. I run the Program and run the CNC shop at this time and dont have the time to make these in quantity.

I took a nut and some rod to demonstrate what is a tack and what is weld and here are the pics of that.

My point is to educate and prevent loss. Hopefully you all can come of your high horses for a minute and get educated. Do not accept any swivels with just tacks or small welds that are mounded up like a bubble. Lack of heat and not enough surface area to hold properly.

Thanks and have a good day. Boogie, you of all know damn well how capable I am. Why be an ass?

Funny, cause we have employees that weld all day and their welds are fine. They would not call those "welds" safe or consider putting their name on them. Thanks for taking my post and twisting it. I was trying to validate my opinion with some info about myself.

You dont know me, if you did you would be saying, this dude knows his shit, listen to him. But whatever, its you all dogs not mine.

I wouldnt pass them welds at all. Pin holes and porosity will make them "proper" welds weak.
Welding on rusty metal like that will cause them pin holes i see in that weld.

.030" wire on a Miller 200. No prep need for this type of welding. Just burn it in good.

Gxon, you are just being pesky, Im done with you.

I'd say they pass integrity test just fine. LMAO This dude trying to compare welds on clean metal with a clean nozzle to quick example on rusty metal with a dirty nozzle. Which this video shows exactly as I was saying. Little welds with no heat dont hold up.

No im comparing good welds against yer shitty weld if your going to show us what a good weld is, and strut your self proclaimed welding skill. Then you should post a good weld not some crap that would break if put to a test. I have seen 1 month welding students weld better than that. If your the welder you say you are than you would know that weld is shit. I can still produce a clean perfect welt with a shitty tip and a shitty nozzle. It dont take a second to hit your material with a wire brush.

You just look like a amateur welder with that shit. Me as a real welder cant take you or that picture seriously. I have never bought any thing from still water that looks like your "proper" weld. Everything i have purchased has looked way better. I can see why you are done with me. I know my shit.
