Pitbull Puppy Dragged Behind Truck, Reward Increased To $5k

St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The puppy dragged behind a truck on I-55 last month continues improving and doctors are guardedly optimistic that the pup's right front leg can be saved.

Trooper, a 5½-month-old pit bull, underwent surgery last week to have additional wounds cleaned and closed, the Humane Society of Missouri said. Doctors also assessed the condition of Trooper's leg.

Dr. Mark Wright, director of shelter medicine for the HSMO, said Trooper is eating and drinking like a normal dog, and is walking on his own several times a day. However, the puppy still faces an additional six to eight weeks for additional treatment and recovery.

Police and the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force were dispatched Wednesday, November 21 after a driver on Interstate 55 pulled over and found Trooper tied to the back of his truck.

The driver was very distraught and said he did not know the dog or how it became tied to his vehicle.
Trooper was wearing a collar and leash, but did not have an ID tag or a microchip. He suffered injuries to his face, ears, shoulder, legs and right side.

A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case. The Humane Society of Missouri doubled the reward to $5,000, thanks to the contribution of an anonymous donor.

Anyone with information on this case or any other instance of animal cruelty is asked to call the HSMO's Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314-647-4400.

Tell me this aint true someone!. This made me sick to my stomach. Whoever did this should meet justice face to face. My scales would likely tip to the evil side in this case before leveling back out out. If only I was a judge. If forensics cant track this inhumane idiot down, maybe they oughta let RedRick out seek justice! Take all o them bad boys, string em high in the streets -like the song says.

    Dog still recovering from injuries
    UPDATED 2:32 PM CST Dec 14, 2012

ST. LOUIS — A woman is charged with misdemeanor animal abuse for having her son tie a puppy to a truck before the dog was dragged along a St. Louis interstate highway.

Officials believe 41-year-old Benetta Johnson, of East St. Louis, Ill., tried to return the dog to her ex-husband by having her 13-year-old son tie the pit bull by a leash to a pickup truck on Nov. 20. The pickup driver, Victor Washington, did not see the puppy before he began driving.

Washington said the puppy was one he gave his ex-wife's daughter months before.

The dog, named Trooper by those nursing it back to health, is recovering but still faces weeks of treatment.

Seconding this. I hear this crap a lot, dogs and horses being dragged behind trucks.. Dogs are not fucking quiet! How could someone forget that a dog was tied to the back of their vehicle? Not to mention it would make an awful lot of noise once it was in pain.
