THE PAS, Manitoba -- A northern Manitoba town has put the bite on pit bull terriers by banning the dog, but local owners of the breed are wondering if that's necessary.

Town council in The Pas have passed a bylaw that bans pit bull terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and American pit bull terriers.

People who already own the dogs can keep them, but can't buy new ones.

Anyone caught with one can be fined up to one-thousand dollars, serve up to a month in jail, or both.

Officials say they're not sure how many pit bulls are in the community.

Mayor Gary Hopper says no one has been bitten or attacked by a pit bull in the town, but adds that some people have been barked at or threatened by their look.

Local pit bull owner Shelly Wilson says she doesn't know why the dogs are being banned when the community has never had a problem with them.

a eldery woman...very nice dog she has blind deaf and prolly pass away this winter..he is 21 human years

a teenager....nice nice breed ''standard'' and fixed

and myself
i breed for myself i own 8 all working/hunting dogs....

nobody shows interest of the breed cos you dont see any of the dogs mentioned AT ALL
prettty fucked though mayor gary hopper bans em cos ontario did that province wide ban

Good for you flippin ofrn! Unbelievable how many place tried to jump on the ''ban wagon'' after the Ontario ban. I was preparing for B.C. to follow suit!

 

This just tells me that he has power and wants to use it. Doesn't matter if anything has happened, he can put restriction on people not because he has too or its needed, but because he wants too. Politicians are retarded. threatened by their look eh, if that were the case I prolly shouldn't go anywhere near canada. People say I look threatening (I just don't smile a lot). Since has a threatening look become assault, thats crap if a person can handle the look of something, they need to toughen up just a little caus ethe world if full of "threatening look's". they think a bulldog is threatening hope to god they don't have a zoo there. I wish you luck on defeating this rediculous measure against your pets/working dogs as it is just not right.
