Flaxseed Oil?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by SCGameBred, Sep 5, 2012.

  1. Is flaxseed oil, or any other supplement safe to add into a pup's diet? I have a 12 week old female and I was wondering if itd be safe to throw some extra nutrients into her diet. I usually just use unimilk until theyre about 6 months, but I've heard great things about the flaxseed oil. Any suggestions?

  2. All those milk replacers are a waste of time and money. I personally wouldn't use flaxseed oil. Get some omega 3 fish oil from seapet.com Other than that I'd let a puppy have it's kibble and be done with it.

I agree with Boogie when it comes to adding EFA's. Flax seed oil never did much for my dogs. I much prefer the results of the fish oils. I generally only use them if needed though... say in an older dog, or allergy dog to help with joint inflammation, etc.....

Only thing you need is at a dollar store. Go figure

  8. I know I am new here but I would not give flaxseed oil. If you are going to give a omega 3 oil I would go with a fish oil. Flaxseed oil can go bad. I use Squalene 1000.

I would just suggest a good multi-vitamin and good feed. No kibble provides everything a dog needs, no matter what the packaging claims say. The vitamin should be either a chewable like this: Pet-Tabs Plus or a liquid like this: Lixotinic®

Flaxseed oil is also used by some brands in the kibble.
I personaly see no real use for it, it would not hurt them too give it every now and then but you wil get better results with high grade salmon oil, not the cheap stuff that's been mixed with sheepfat or other natural oils.

  13. I have tried FlaxSeed Oil, it does have its benefits, however it just dis-balances the Omega3 to Omega6 ratio in the feed, I agree with Joe, Salmon Oil is a way better supplement.
