the main thing you need and have to do if you don't want to miss it is . a blood test for the progesterone level to know when it's time . you can do it by counting days but good luck with that .

 

I thought when you used fresh, it was good to keep the bitch's rear end up for a while to minimize the amount of semen leakage.

Where I work we do a lot of AI for AKC breeders. We do surgical as well. It is pretty inexpensive for the actual AI. With the office visit and collection of male and examination of the semen and the AI for the female it will run you about $125. If you have chilled sent it. It would only be around $85. And that is for the vaginal tract at the opening of the cervix. And that is the one you should hold the bitch upright.

Now surgical runs between $250 - $350.

Also what can add up is the progesterone tests to determine the best day. Now when clients do all the progesterone testing and determine the correct day we have had a really good success rate with the vaginal AI.

Thats real high, check around there is much cheaper............

 

He is not trying to break people. It runs $70 - $100 for anesthesia. And the $100 - $200 is for the actual procedure. And then there is the pain meds. Not the expensive. Maybe that is why we have so many come to us. LOL

We are doing one next week for a Golden Breeder. Her Estimate was $375 because we have not seen this dog of hers before and we need to do an exam.

Now the Progesterone is $65 a pop. So that can add up if you have to do multiple.

I ordered this kit on Sunday and they had it to me on Tuesday. I was surprised it came so quick ( pun intended ). I ordered it from Reese Ranch Breeding Services, only $9.00. Going to do a breeding this week and didn't think it would get here on time but they were very swift on sending it to me. Would've hated to drive 13 hours one way to make this breeding happen without this kit. Still going to try a natural tie but I don't see that happening with this particular bitch. Anyway, this will be my first time trying to do A.I.

 

I just did a surgical implant of a female from frozen semen, from my Iron Mike dog off Braddock & Lil Maggie.
The cost was about $550.

Yes, because you know for sure there is nothing wrong with the male.
I check the semen under a scope before doing A.I.
I still do both.
This year I have done about 3 fresh A.I.'s and 1 or 2 natural.
