Have a gyp just over 3 and have tried to get her breed 3 times and have yet to have any luck. She comes in heat and stays in for a normal time period, flags, I breed her and has yet to see any pups. Breed two other bitches to the same stud and they both took. So i know its not him. I can count on 2 hands the amout of litters ive had in the last 17 years so i only breed selected few. This so happens to be the best gyp ive ever seen. Why does it happen like that? Had she been a cur dog she would have took every time.:) Anyone else ever have this problem? Think she might take later when shes older?

this would be alot easier and faster than trying to figure out if she has a split heat cycle or some hormone inbalance since OP says her heat cycle seems normal.

  11. When the bitch first starts in heat you do one of the tests to get her base progesterone level. Then you do one every two days. When the level spikes you can pinpoint the day of ovulation. It will basically guarantee you know the day the bitch ovulates, or tell you that she never did. It's not cheap, but if you want a breeding to be successful you're having problems with, it's the best way to get it done for sure.

Here's a pretty easy to understand article that can help you know what to expect if you want to do it. IMO an AI should never be done without them. Sperm lives a lot less days inside the female if it's been chilled, and only 24 hours if it's been frozen.

why not just let the male get it every day till she wont let him. after she start to stan for him i would get them stuck every day till she is not willing

The window when she actually can conceive can be very small. I had one that I swear it was about 12hr. Crazy

  15. This is actually true with any breeding.

Well the sperm can live in her for up to 5 days and i bred her everyday this last time and she still didnt take. I try to stay away from the vets as much as possible and she one of those with all the beauty marks so im sure they wont approve of any breeding. Thanks BoogieMan i think ill try that her next cycle. If she is coming into heat is she still able to take or is there a chance she never will?

Progesterone testing is expensive if you have a vet do it but it can be done at home for cheap. Camelot farms sells a kit you can use at home.

What day did you start breeding her? Did you start as soon as she started bleeding? Some females ovulate very early, so if you wait til day 9 to start you wont ever get pups. Also, breeding your male everyday is not a good thing. He really shouldn't be bred more than 3 days in a row. Every other day is better. If you still cannot get pups using the progesterone kit then she really should see a reproductive specialist.

You can buy ovulattion strips at around a dollar or so per one if you buy inpacks of 20 or so.
You can also buy a Draminski ovulation detector for around 350 dollar which is a valuable piece of equipment & a must have if you have quality females.

Ovulation strips are not anywhere as accurate as a blood progesterone test.
