My pups very fussy and sometimes even turns her nose up to fresh meat , the bitch. But she seems to like cat food. Wat u guys think about cat food in general? To me seems the ingredients are better , for example wen u buy tuna and prawns it's actually tuna and prawns.

aCat food is for cats and dog food for dogs , commercial animal feeds have teams of scientist/nutritionist that formulate various feeds for all animals needs , they spend millions of pounds on research just trying to create the perfect balanced diet . That dont mean that cat food would harm your puppy but all complete feeds are only a basic belly filler a dog like you needs a varied diet and a little cat food once in a while wont harm a dog but like i said cat foods made for cats and they have a different digestive system to a dog , if in doubt ask your vet

True I have thought about the fact that alot of cash has been poured into development but I can't imagine the ingredients being as good. Wat did u feed ur dogs, jt?

im all for feeding natural when i can but at the minuite im feeding a dry food called "austrailian formula" its actually a feed for grey hounds but by my reckoning, if the food is designed for high performance animals it cant be all that bad for a working dog, once you keep that dog fairly active. i havnt finished the bag yet and i can see a huge difference in me wheaten from the last commercial feed i had him on. i.e vigour, coat and is like a rock to the touch again . granted i had him on dry feed before this and i could see that he wasnt doing well on it but the austrailian formula turned him right back around. truth be told i think there might be a little too much in this feed for a wheaten, but a pitbull with a job might do well on it. any 1 had any experience with grey hound feed good or bad ?

Many years ago when we kept a large yard of over thirty dogs we fed a Greyhound meal that we used to buy wholesale cheaply , howevor with some of the heavy Nelis dogs we got skin problems , we used to feed lots of flesh mainly sheeps heads , tripes and cow tripes which we got cheap (Thankfully) as feeding a large yard can get expensive , i also have access to chicken carcasses that have had the breast and legs removed and used to pick up a hundredweight each week and mince this with the tripes and waste from a number of butchers shops . If your feeding only a few dogs then complete feeds are fine as long as you include some flesh , a friend of mine who keeps a couple of Stafford and keeps them very fit feeds a complete meal but adds a piece of dripping about the size of your finger and fresh vegetables and rice , his dogs are always in excellent shape . I found that to much complete feed gave some of my wheatens skin problems especially in the older dogs but this was remedied by returning to a more flesh based diet , but as a maintanance feed you cannot beat complete meals they are formulated to provide dogs with all they require in a diet . I just enjoy mixing my own feeds giving my dogs a diet as close to natural as i can had i large yard then id probaly feed a complete feed also but im lucky in that i can get asa much flesh as i want the only things i buy are grains and cereals .

Most dog foods are mainly fillers anyways. Dogs have lived jus fine off ol roys for years so imo if the ingredients are better why not give it a try. I bet more of that research goes to making the food cost effective than making the best produce. Otherwhise I wouldn't see fillers at all, let alone as a top 3 ingredient

yeh j.t. i hear what your saying, i reckon the level of protein alone in most greyhound feeds wouldnt be great for a wheaten if feeding long term. i do break up the week by giving him a bowl of pasta or boiled potatoes once or sometimes twice a week, not for nutritional value but just to give his system a break from the protein.apart from the dogs with skin probs, did you get good results from the g.hound food or was it just another dry food ?
