i agree with you puregame. if one is a true game enthusiast id take it out the USA like one of the latin american countries were bull fighting, cock fighting are legal and things like dog fighting are not enforced. since i live here in the USA were in some places owning a mill is good enough to land you a misdemeanor A and more, i too think things have to change at least if one is like me and is concerned of how their record looks to an employer for the rest of there lives. call me what you want but im not game testing shit over here. i may be ruining the breed in some ones eyes, but i feel that if my dogs look the way there game ancestors did i fell thats good enough for the times we live in.

    Pedigree is most important.

How you look at it and what you look for in it may vary. But a dogs ancestral background means almost everything especially when buying a pup. If it didn't, you would just be getting dogs from the pound lol

It's how you look @ it. Breeding for papers would be a pedigree of dogs related to one good dog. A good ped would be lots of good dogs all related. Small difference makes all the difference. I can't say one is wrong or one is right, cuz the guy breeding for papers might just be throw better % of good dogs than you lol just depends on what you're working with an what you are capable of individually.

That's one of the reasons I don't breed hardluck trust me I have thought about it gone back and fourth with it have had good offers to breed my working bred pets to good dogs but what good would I be doing the breed I am physically unable to test anything because of the Laws so I feel by breeding dogs that are not as good as the dogs in their peds I am doing the breed a serious injustice. Unless you are breeding and farming pups out to capable hands it's not really benefiting the breed to breed more dogs. This is why I am conflicted with breeding myself I don't want to be responsible for producing more shit.

After all the reading I've done on APBT history, and my respect for the dogs I could not breed 2 untested dogs.No reason to.

I would much rather just buy dogs from good dogmen and be done with it there is just too much that goes into breeding and I love the breed enough not to be part of the problem if I show a dog or two great as long as I can keep promoting the breed in the right light I feel I have done more than enough.

Yeah believe me I know I thought about breeding my jeep redboy female to a nice buck dog the offer was made and I kept putting it off heat after heat she's got a nice ped but she's a pet I would be fooling myself to think she could produce anything better than what she is the stud would carry all the weight as he's a working dog so I would be breeding best to shit lol I couldn't be proud of that and I have a lot of people to Thank for educating me and teaching me what's right with these dogs and what's not.

Pedigrees do have a place when looking to breed a dog, but I really hate the peddlers that claim to be selling pups off proven parents with good pedigrees, when the parents have never done anything.

How do you propose the game dog should be preserved? Legally of course =D

I'm probably going to smack myself for saying this later but there is a lot more to these dogs that just the sport. I sound like one of those bleeding heart, poster wavers. What is the world coming to *smh*

Good point puregame, but heres a question for anyone that is "preserving" the game dog. What are you preserving it for? Its not likely that bulldogs will be able to prove themselves legally in the future IMO.

Dont get me wrong, if showing a dog was on my agenda I would want something that was game bred. Just as long as the breeder was honest about everything,,, lol.

Re: Breed with a purpose & not the papers

There is nothing wrong with showing a game dog first of all not all pups off game dogs are game second most bulldogs off performance stock today are pets I have one off 2 ch/grch that's a fucking pet and will be shown in conformation my pup didn't come from a peddler either if it upsets you that bulldogs are being shown in conformation shows oh well get over it there are plenty of dog men at those shows doing just that lol.

Re: Breed with a purpose & not the papers

Papers just tell you the lineage of the dogs ancestors, its who you got the dogs from that matters more.

Everyone has a favorite flavor ,but I wouldnt make a decision on just papers alone.

Now back to the topic, I don't care what anyone else's purpose is in breeding dogs, heck if they want to breed for profit go ahead more power to you if you can sell each pup for 1500.00 and breed 20 litters a year you would make around $200K its all good as making money is the american way LOL.

And to Sadie no law against breeding so fuck what the world thinks if you want to breed some dogs just do it, if just for the experience alone do it, they are YOUR dogs and you can breed them if you want dont let anyone or those AR activist influence you in anyway about over population and threatening to push BSL and all that other fucking bullshit , the world is fucked up already so who give a fuck, if you aint breaking any laws just do what you want to do and do you. Sorry just a small rant LMAO.

Re: Breed with a purpose & not the papers

Why not, if thats what I wanted. I've heard of a few winners in the box also winning in the shows before. I also would guess that the first conformation show winners in the bulldog world were mostly game bred animals, at the minimum. I dont think people were breeding bulldogs for generations in anticipation of conformation shows.
Like I said, as long as the breeder was honest about the parents, then I would know pretty much what I was getting. The words honesty and peddlers are rarely spoken in the same sentence, so thats why I added the "lol" in my statement.

Re: Breed with a purpose & not the papers

My only issue with show breeders is breeding for looks alone but there is nothing wrong with taking a performance bred animal and showing it. The damn Adba standard is based off the game dog now wether the judges judge by it or interpret the standard as it was written is something else we all know game dogs are not bred for looks but there were and are some fine looking game dogs that any show breeder would be lucky to show at one of the sanctioned conformation shows.
