    Hey guys,

i live in the uk and have some concerns that my dog may come under the term "pitbull" as a breed type

after watching him grow a few months my impression is that he is crossed with something, any one want to hazard a guess as to what that could be?

When i got him i was only able to see his mother ( a blue brindle stb )

could you please have a look at these photos of zion and tell me what you think!

Am i worrying over nothing or should i be concerned

    thanx

he looks legit to me from the pics.....you prob. wont know for sure for awhile...if its a true SBT it wont get over 40lbs...(There are exceptions)He looks great...he actually looks APBT...If he is a cross of the 2 then he may get slightly bigger

What ever he is he looks great,
Just keep him outta trouble and be sensible with him so you don't draw the wrong kind of attention to him and you should be fine.
Good luck with him. How old is he?

Zion is 6months old, hes as tall as my other 4yr old (stb) already.
Im amazed at how intelligent he is.
Been doing alot of reading and i'm learning about this breed everyday, wouldnt change him for the world.

    Thanx guys

nice . pup. have you registered him at your local vet as a stafford ?
    is he micro-chipped as a stafford ?
just a couple of things which could be in your favour as you would have written proof.
size isnt the deciding factor as many staffords hit 18inch and some above. as said before be responsible and try not to draw attention to your dog.

Yeah hes registered with vet as a stafford, im a very responsible owner, just worried that some people around my area might report me just based on the looks of this dog as i walk him everyday and have got quite a few funny looks.

I hate that alot of people in the uk have these dogs as a kind of "status symbols" cuz then every one (even responsible owners) with these dogs gets tarred with the same brush and gets seen as some kind of stereotype, ya know the type i mean.

Me an my partner have got so attached to zion it would destroy us if nething happened, anyway thanx for all ya comments, will take them all on board.

Good luck 2 all with you as yours.

lots of dogs fit the 'type' unfortuantely (short haired, muscular etc),it's down to you to prove it isn't a banned breed if you get pulled.

i wouldn't worry too much, and definitely don't go asking vets etc if they think it is or not just keep him out of trouble and enjoy him.

all my staffords over the years have fit the so called 'type' and i have had no problems. although that type thing in the uk is a load of shite.

ZIYA , don't worry to much about it ! , if your sensible you will be alright . Alot of that type are about , IE Irish Blue ! is a common term for them , His mum was blue brindle , he's all blue ! so he looks like his mum's been bred to another Irish blue ! could be wrong ! but by looks he looks 100% this type ! IRISH BLUE = is a slang name for this type of Staffy as there ancestor's was suppose to come from Ireland, there colour and being usually a bit taller than the average KC Staffy as they are not bred to the KC standards,
They are all Staffy , no Pit bull , but look very similar .
blanch ,above as got it right , Don't make out like your not sure what he is ! to vet's , police ,dog warden's, RSPCA and wot not , as they have not got a clue ,and just want credit for catching or boasting they have just caught a pit bull, baby eating monster that kills , even if it's not and the most lovable puppy in the world !

Thanx for all the replys, below is what the govenment of our not so "great britain" say about this breed. i think you will all agree that this sucks:
What is a ‘type’ of banned dog?

Whether your dog is a banned type depends on what it looks like, rather than its breed or name

A dog type is not a breed. Whether your dog is a banned type depends on what it looks like, rather than its breed or name.
If your dog matches many of the characteristics of a Pit Bull Terrier, it may be a banned type. This is because dogs with these characteristics are more likely than other dogs to cause severe harm if they attack.

It won’t matter what type or breed a dog’s parents were. (Cross-bred and mongrel dogs can have the characteristics of a Pit Bull Terrier.)

    Pit Bull type dogs

Pit Bull types may include the following dog breeds:
    • American Staffordshire Terriers
    • Irish Staffordshire Terriers
    • Irish Blue or Red Nose
Some kinds of American Bulldogs have been found to be Pit Bull types.

    Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are not listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. You are allowed to own this breed of dog.

What can happen to banned dogs types
If your dog is a banned type, it can be seized even if it isn’t acting dangerously

If your dog is one of the banned types, the police or local council dog warden can seize (capture and keep) it even if:

    • it isn’t acting dangerously
    • there hasn’t been a complaint
The police may need a warrant (permission from a court) to do this. If your dog is in:

    • a public place, the police don’t need a warrant
    • a private place, the police must get a warrant
    • a private place and the police have a warrant for something else (for example, drugs search), they can seize your dog
Once seized, your dog will be kept by police until a decision is reached on whether it needs to be destroyed or released. This could take several weeks or months. You won’t be allowed to visit your dog.

Judging whether your dog is a banned type

A police or council dog expert will judge the type of dog you have and whether it is, or could be, a danger to the public. Your dog will then either be:

    • released
    • kept in kennels while the police (or council) apply to a court
You can give up ownership of your dog but you can’t be forced to. If you do, your dog could be destroyed without you even going to court

Your. Just as likely to be bitten by a poodle as you are a a well socialised pit the law is a joke,.. Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember one of the royal family's dogs attacked someone or another dog and nothing came of it.. Funny that

yes you should be concerned. walk the dog at night.

Oh cripes, you never know with BSL. If your dog looks anything like a pit, it could be attacked by BSL.

only walking a dog at night will attract attention as if you have got something to hide if the dog is well behaved and well socialised and people see it as such you shouldnt have any problems.
