Sig or Glock like people say in this thread. I like the Glock more, but havent shoot so much with Sig.
Glock17 is a good gun, but it have problems that it can jam sometimes.

Your maine reason was protection in your home, so if the treat is comming it will be close by and with huge stress. maybe a 40cal would be better for stopping a person?
Train with heavy breating and under stress so you are ready and dont shoot yourself in the foot :)

You are the very first person I have ever heard say that a glock has an issue with jamming. That is what they are known not to do. Have you had this happen to you or are you going off of what you heard? I have a glock and so do a lot of my friends, and we have never experienced that before. If it is happening to you, send it back to the manufacturer, and I am sure that they will make things right for you.

Don't buy any gun you never shot unless your collecting. If you want to buy just one for all purposes, then go to a place that sells firearms and has its own range so you can fire them. Make your choice based on what you can handle comfortably. The brand and caliber size is not so important if you yourself are not comfortable handling a firearm, especially of you are a female. ( due to hand size, trigger pull, and over hand gun retention will vary drastically from person to person.) Woman tend to have a hard time repeatedly pulling the trigger on guns with higher than average trigger pulls, they tend to have issues safely loading and unloading due to needing two hands to drop out the magazine if the hand is too small to do it with one hand. The slide tends to be whole other issue with women too, some I teach need to switch hands to unlock the slide lock button also. These issues are not practical for everyday use. So that is why I suggest you don't any firearm you haven't shot first. JMO

The one time I've seen a Glock jam was my buddy limp wristing while we were at the range. He wasn't expecting the recoil, since he's not a shooter, and his hand would snap back with the gun not letting the slide cycle another round properly. The problem was solved after I smacked him on the back of the head and told him to hold the damn gun like a man.

LMAO!!! Glock's are not known to jam, thats for sure... best home protection though (non hand gun) 18 1/2" 12 gauge, preferable pistol grip. No aiming required!

Your exactly correct; "no aiming required!" love it. :-)
Own both; A Glock 40 cal, and Remington assault 18" pump 12 gauge. Home defense 12 gauge, not even a debate!

    Hi!

Glock have/had problems with that they can jam. The only time a glock jamed on me was with homemade ammo, but i havent shoot so much with a glocks a few 100 rounds maybe. But i had heard it somewhere from maybe 2 diffrent persons and then i did get to spend some time with a person who works with weapons (dont wanna write to much in who/where he works in a open forum) and he confirmed that but it was not anything official
BUT in the sametime he said that he really like the glocks and i like it to, it`s not a heavy gun, easy and so on. I would love to own one myself. But the clock17 have/had problems that that.

Im not a multi round handgun type but ill add my 2 cents...LOL Im thinking a TC 308 make the first round count and if not you"ll still got accurate shots beyond 100yds. If someone pulls out a pistol with a 3" barrel and says I gotta gun, I'd pull out a 14" TC centerfire and go no...this is a gun! kinda like Crocodile Dundee with the knife deal...LOL

STI INTERNATIONAL... type it in, they are a competition pistol, but not that pricee. I carry an Escort 9mm for concelment, and have TROJON for competition. They are very accurate from factory, and nice looking also. You won't be sorry for the few extra bucks.

Go to Gun Broker and you can bid on them FREE and I saved around $400.00 on my Escort. JMO

Lets hear some input on revolver models, anyone?

Ruger gp100 is built like a tank. Compare the top strap to any other .357 and you will see the difference. Trigger pull is not as smooth as a Smith but it costs less. Not a good conceal carry piece but its great for anything that goes bump in the night at home..

I have shot thousands of rounds with a hundred different Glock's and never had one jam. My new toy is a Glock 20sf 10mm. Love that gun!

Glock 17 by far. I've had it for quite some time and has yet to jam on me. I've put several thousands of rounds through it!

Glock is a fine gun. No one can really debate their reputation and not call themselves biased.

Kimber is however my hands down favorite semi-auto. Reliable in not only durability, but also performance.

Honestly, I am not a Sig fan. I have found them to jam too easily for my liking, and must be held with a firm grip. I have learned to control recoil upon shooting big bore revolvers...and while my grip (fingers) is firm with all guns, my wrist isn't always firm. Shooting this way allows one to handle heavy recoil guns without a pounding (for me). However, even then, I have gotten jams with the Sig when other firearms just keep spitting out the ammo without a hiccup...even offhand.

If you like a built to last revolver...hard to beat the Ruger SP101 IMO. They are really durable guns. My wife's smith & wesson locked up on us once after being dropped in GRASS on soft ground. The transfer bar safety broke. I never understood why or how that happened, but it did. I don't see the SP101 having that problem.

As far as "revolver vs semi-auto" goes in terms of reliable function...a semi-auto is more likely to jam, but when the revolver does jam it not only has to "go home for the day" but also often needs a trip to a gunsmith, while a semi-auto can be cleared in the field.

If I carried a 1911 style gun,STI would be my first choice. They are big in the shooting sports community and alot of "race guns" were built on the STI frame. There customer service is top notch.

shut the fuck up with that BS. the XD is a Croatian made pos. i know a couple dealers who wont even stock em because when they DO break, you cant even get parts for em. theyre a stupid design... top heavy, high bore axis, with a worthless grip saftey. they havent been picked up by any major LE agency for a reason....nobody wants em. they werent even worth buying when they were $200 cheaper and sold as the HS2000....that was before SA started importing them and slapping a fancy name on em.

to the OP, theres many reliable 9mms out there...Beretta, Sig, HK, CZ, Glock, BHP and as was mentioned in another post, the Walther pistols (PPS and PPQ)
