Looking back in hindsight now that im older almost 80% of all the litters I've ever see no matter the breed have had their dams physical structure from shoulders to tail but they seem to have sires head, frontend and bond density and also displayed more of sires temperament ( personality) but these factors will vary depending on who's genes are dominated by the other and if the genes are close in relation the percentage of consistantcies in your pups will higher if genes are farther apart the variation of characteristics will be greater and less consistent!

    Nice quote Carson.
Tudor kept only exceptional gyps for brood, he culled the rest cause he didnt want too many people sharing too much of his blood. Carver also understood the importance of a exceptional brood. Alot of other old breeders didnt test thier bitches as much. Old world tradition the males worked and the brood were just that brood. In old pedigrees
youll notice the dams name is often missing numerous generations if she even had a pedigree. English were the first to really document pedigrees including the dam excpecially in the Victorian area when dog shows became the fad.
Old hunters that kept pedigrees usually only listed the sires also, alot of places like cuba in the 50s, the virgin islands mexico, south america only kept the sire on their pedigrees.old race horses and chickens as well. the group who bought Iron Head from Carver also had a famous race horse, they bred both privately and had pedigrees that only said Iron Head to the point they just say inbred Iron Head...
The Best breeders utilize their stock and only breed to the strictest sandards, everbodies standards may vary...

We all know its best to keep and breed your cold bitches.... Give the hot ones away, they won't produce like those double dead game cold dogs!

I was reading some old adds. I saw one that popped out and went along with this topic. I cant recall who wrote it but it was similar to this.."better stud dogs are not to be found anywhere, but do not buy good ammunition unless you have a great gun to shoot it through". The Ammo is the sire and the gun is the dam in this case.
I liked to read that and thought I would add it to this thread.

    It's a pretty fair analogy.

I will ask this, how many studs have been opened to the public? How many times can you get a pup off one of those studs who are ROM or whatever title they use??? It's possible, but go to the same guy, ask for a pup off his bitch that is ROM or a bitch who consistently produce top quality, and no $$ can get you one..

I remember reading the stratton books years ago and he said something to the effect...if you have the money you can breed to many a top stud availible around the world but no breeder is usually willing to part with his top bi $@#
