is the american bulldog derived from the pitbull or not?the am/bulls are rife where i am and depending on who you ask or what book you read the opinion differs greatly.like i had read "queenie" at the start of the johnson line was a pitbull.any info or opinions?ive seen a few dvds of the am/bulls hunting hog, training for hogs etc.the real mccoy look serious working beasts, not the uk show/im hard look at me type!lol

imo it played a big part in most modern lines!! But then so did a hell of alot of other breeds. If it quacks and has feathers its a duck right ?

ambull from working yard are basically a US dogo. It has infusion of pitbull and some early c/weight pitbulls were used for hog work. But the pit will fight another dog as work a hog. This is why the ambull was developed on different lines.

The cordoba dog was an awesome boxdog but slowly became extinct and crossed to produce the dogo.

some dogmen crossed a few for the box and had some success....sgt.rock was one that comes to mind. But like hinks it didnt last the course.

Working ambulls need work or they can turn into a 120 lb cur man eater!

the apbt is a component in the ab. it is still infused today in some lines...i think hammer head hit the nail on the head so to speak-the ab was developed on different lines, with the intention to produce a performance hunting dog/protection dog-not necessarily to produce a "pure" breed, even though it is recognized as such today

the best working AB's have a heavy dose of pit blood. Like the Hines-Scott strains, the Stover dogs behind the Hines dogs from Alabama. The Bosshog family from the Carolinas, and off course the Margentina and Painter strains from Chicago. Without pit bull blood they are worthless as a working breed.

I read an article that claims Wood's Oso Negro was used in some of the Alapaha Bulldog blood.Anyone know if that is a fact?

If u look at some of the old Colby dogs you will see that some look a lot like the American Bulldogs of today. There was a big weightlifter back in the 40's from Pa ,and he had a big Colby dog that looks like what is advertised as American Bulldog.

  12. The APBT was created by crossing the (original) American Bulldog with the English and Irish Staffordshire Terriers. This cross was first made in the USA and created the modern day bulldog. The American Bulldog was imported from England to Virginia around the year 1600 and was later bred to the other bulldogs that were imported to New York. The original American Bulldog was just the name we gave to the imported English Bulldog (original) that was bred in the USA.
The American Bulldog today is just like the American Staffordshire Terrier today, they have absolutely nothing in common with the originals except that they carry the same names.

chicago dogs fro painter and others were used in the box......but anything down from them wouldnt be able to compete today. their strain need to be bred and culled by active dogmen. Its hard enough getting game APBT to the fastlane but few have bred battlecrosses using them and amstaff.

But heres the rub........its harder to get a POR or ROM from these hybrids. But the stock was alot better when they first were imported into the americas.

maybe immigration aint so bad for the usa after all..........:p:p;):D ....pmsl...

  17. Yes, all bulldogs can trace theri lineage to the first dogs imported from England and Ireland. In the USA they were crossed and bred and selected upon creating the modern day APBT. During that time, the APBT became the number one choice for game dogs and was second to none winning over all that was bred overseas until the men from overseas came to the USA to get the newly created APBT and that is what we all have now.

http://abbreedinfo.tripod.com/Types.htm being from the deep south if u scroll to the bottom of this page is the types of bulldogs i am use to seeing,,Carr bloodline is outstanding and some awesome firepower as a gaurdian, but very lovable and easy with family.I take a Carr bred bulldog over any..JMO though.

I have often heard and from being around so many the more white in a bulldog the easier they are to train..They seem to be smarter and Carr even believed the bigger the head the smarter they were..Also seem to be more relaxed ,almost too relaxed until a threat appears and they react very quickly..very explosive.

Here a kennel that produce REAL hog hunters.........notice they have "cur" dogs as well.

Real ol skool thinking......when a farmer kept bulldawgs and cur hounds.........ability vs baying.
