Genetic variation and selective breeding my friend. This is where all dogs come from, cuz at the end of the day.. its just a dog and what has been done to it over the years can be done again. From dogs without any real uniform traits comes sighthounds, scenthounds, guardians, etc. created out of thin air...just selecting for the trait. You think this can't be done again? What is so genetically different about the pitbull in which its genes will not and cannot change under selective breeding?

God gave man domain over all animals, so we control there fates. Man domesticates certain animals and molds them to what he wants them to be, wether its for companion, entertainment, working, sporting, and or food.

Ultra violet dream , hide from the red light beam now do you believe in the unseen, look but dont make your eyes strain cause a nigga like me is going insane LOL.

there was this mad scientist he wanted to create the worlds most evilest creature , so he made a machine that would combine all the worlds most evilest and meanest creatures like a snake, a shark , a lion , a tiger, a crocodile, badger, a wolverine, a bulldog and many other evil creatures and he flipped that switch and when the machine door open out came the most evilest creature in the world and it was MAN!!!!!! LMAO

Great discussion and excellent points made. Amstaffs arent all bred for non DA in the show ring all they care about is looks. I think most dogs can be trained to focus on a stack and not on the other dogs but this doesn't mean that dog isn't DA.

I know the adba don't care about hot dogs on the lead but I'm sure if you let a few rotties and bullterriers at an AKC show you could end up with a mush pit lol

I strongly agree it all depends how hard the DA gene is attached to the dogs DNA and how many generations it could take to wife it off. At the end of the day two poodles can scrap just like two humans won't get along. Obviously with the king of canine gladiators one ends up dead. I'm sure Dogos or other hunting dogs can start a fight with each other although it's hard to know if it's their fight for hierarchy or the lack of leadership from the owner. Obviously this pack theory doesn't apply to a dog from proven lines since their communication tools arent there to warn before an attack but I am talking about pack dogs in general.

gonna have to agree these dogs were used for literally everything from flock guards to protection dogs catch dogs and to drive livestock very recently even in the 19th century both in the US and UK hell they were even war dogs in WW1 and WW2 used to track gas and people also to help bring down the enemy everyone seems to be so fixated on the fact that they were just used for fighting and that is very very wrong now do they make the best at alot of those task no do they make the best pack dogs no not at all but can it be done yes they are the jack of all trades and the masters in the []

the topic is if the APBT can be a LARGE PACK HUNTING ANIMAL and NOT IF THEY ARE ONLY GOOD FOR FIGHTING read the whole thing first and apply the proper post.
ROBBIE 70 and you other people are blind of your dogs history. men and women are always trying to change something that they cant. the APBT will never be a succesfull pack dog like the huskies, fox hounds and such they will be small pack hunters and it would work best if there were other breeds like the catahula to bay and the APBT to catch. they are catch dogs not group hunters. know the history of the dogs you own people. the APBT is a very versatile dog... it will not excell in a lage packs hunting free like the COLONIAL DAYS like the way they did with the fox hounds. usually when hog hunters go out to hunt they let the bay dogs go searching and the when the bay dogs have the hog bayed and the owners are close they realease the APBT to catch the dog. im through with this topic now and you guys need to understand that for centries these dogs were breed not to be pack hunters!

if you people think that the they can hunt free range with 10, 20 even 30 APBTs in a hunting pack running free scenting searching and working with each other to find a hog or a fox you guys are dreaming and sound like you dont understand the history of the dogs you own.

What he saying is, there are dogs that are better bred for those tasks.
if you'e going to work a dog, why wouldnt you get the dog that was created to do that type of work?

Not really. the guy asked how long it took for the dogs to develop those traits and if it was reversable. Through selective breeding you can change an animal. It wont be the dog you know as the APBT... but from my understanding of the question we are not talking about letting a bunch of box dogs go in a field...

We are talking about DNA. can the dog aggression be changed. You said through an outcross it can. Well, if it can be changed through an outcross of a dog that is not D.a then it can obviously be changed by another apbt that is also not D.a. therefor selective breeding could do what he is asking.

I would think it could be done but very unlikely.I haven't seen to many that will get along. You would always be selective breeding and your still going to have trouble even after years and years.I really dont agree on the thought at all,the pitbull is a perfect breed and wouldent want a pack pitbull,it would be like changing there dna might as well cross breed.

  17. venom

    venom Top Dog

yeah it would be a hell of a lot easier lol or just get a dog that was bred to be a pack hunter.

The hard part is how do you know if one is truely d.a seeing they can turn on at an older age, some can just be d.a in some situations, non d.a to non d.a can produce d.a.Ive seen dogs live together than go at it cause of pride durring play and are strait up d.a from that point on.Problems would grow more and more not as easy as one would think.

Of course, you could never do it in one, two, or five breedings. You would have to be talking about generations and generations and generations. It would be a timeless project and pretty much pointless to spend your whole life working to build something that already exists lol. All i'm saying is, its not impossible lol

You are 100% correct. Man has been breeding function, confirmation, and temperament (HA or DA) for hundreds of years in dogs. And it doesn't take as many generations as you might think.
And I also saw that documentary you are talking about, on some cable channel less than a year ago.
