Angus has been helped greatly by a routine of Adequan injections and two different pain medications. He has been doing so well that he got to go Lure Coursing again last week. He was pain free both before and after but I am taking it slow with him. He won't be able to do some things because of his HD but don't count him out entirely just yet! He is still 100% pure intensity.

no disrespect but how is he such a nice dog when he has hd

folks are so caught up on looks that they see such good dog in angus when i see a dog that probly should have been culled along with his litter mates

or fixed along with his litter mates never to reproduce

that's a gorgeous dog and he is full of muscle. If you don't mind me asking how did you find out he had HD? did you get it graded by the OFA or just by xrays? I was training my dog to weight pull and he was doing very good but I didn't want to go heavy until we did x-rays and he turned out to have HD, the OFA gave it a moderate grade if I am not mistaken. This pretty much halted any kind hard work I had planned for my dog :(

Thanks, He has been fixed and is a nice dog in drive, attitude and looks. He has been fixed, the owners of his littermates know about his problems, what they do with their dogs is their decision. I found out about his problems when he started limping when I started putting him through more rigorous exercise than just puppy training. I had him X-rayed by two different vets and found his HD, he also has a low grade luxating patella. With conditioning and medication he's able to be a decently active dog but will not be able to do the high impact activities that I had hoped for. He may actually do some weight pull. It's a low impact sport that was recommended by his orthopedic specialist. He's not a dog that will ever be bred or be able to do real work so some people may think he's not worth much but I am determined he will live his life to the fullest while he can.

This dog is the only dog of his known blood to have hip or knee issues. I have talked to the 3 breeders that contributed to this blood (Volando, Tempest, and Inkwood), none of the other dogs have ever had problems and there are many of them that are actively involved in sports.
I personally have two dogs from the same blood, and one of them is this dog's littermate. He is active in conformation, agility, flyball, dock diving, lure coursing, weight pull (pulled 1600lb or 64x bp last time), obedience, and rally. All of their littermates are also involved in sports; as well as, their parents and grandparents. My younger boy (just turned a year) is active in conformation, flyball and freestyle obedience.
There is such a thing as nature vs nuture, and sometimes situations are caused by how a dog was raised or treated. To say there is something wrong with the blood, over one dog, is bullshit!
