How to tell a spay

I have 2 females My white one is getting spayed Aug . I also have a black & White i received who i figure is at the most 1 1/2 yrs old . The person I got her from - got her form someone else. Any how every thing i was told by this individual about this dog has been the opposite from being a " barker " " bad with kids " " does not listen" " She had puppy's that were taken from her " yada yada
On the Black & White i see a small 1 inch scar near belly button going in the direction of the body, the long way , I figure that's a spay scar . Are there any other ways to determine if a spay is done ? I could wait out another 5 months But i sure don't want her to have unnecessary work done

Might be useless info for you yanks, but in Australia whenever a dog or bitch is desexed it has a small tattoo put inside it's ear. A circle about 1/4" in diameter with a line through it (a bit like a gun sight).

 

What state? I've got two sterilized dogs without tats.

On closer inspection, you are correct, sir. Found the one on the bitch but not on the dog. They were done at different vets though.

 

You tell it sit, then spay!

 

Bionic, not sure if they tat the males, I suppose it's pretty obvious when the dog doesn't have any back wheels.

 

Get a magnifying glass and look over the entire dog for the word SPAYED in permanant ink like a tattoo. Its usually in real small letters and somewhere under the tail but can be anywhere.

 

Wait and see if she ever goes into heat.

 

If she is contained properly you can wait and just see if she goes into heat. But generally a spay for a dog in heat is a little more expensive, so you may have to wait even longer if she does go into heat to have the procedure completed.

 

It could just be a hernia scar. I had the very same situation. Bought the dog from a BS'er, later on noticed it looked like she had been spayed. I took her to the vet who said she was 100% sure she had been spayed. Three months later the gyp comes into heat. Just sit back and wait and see if you can.
