mercury levels have less to do with type of fish, and more to do with location

fish heads once a week are a good source of vitamin d for the dogs, they're also free from a fish monger

Some of the best meat/protein sources is fish. A clean meat, good source of fat, Omega 3 and oils. As well as a good source of calcium.
I been feeding store bought whole frozen mackeral and sardines for 3-4 years now...prefer it over raw chicken.

    Hi,

I normally just take the back bone out, in fishing terms it would be called making a "flapper" you literally cut up both side of the back bones upto towards the head and remove its back bone. I find this is what usally causes the problems.

When I was a kid my dog would go into the water and grab the fish and bring it in beforei could reel it in. Then they would start scratch it like crazy when it started flopping around and get almost all the scales off. We started just giving her the fish as was caught them, it was funny. She would prance around with them in her mouth like she was on top of the world but never tried to eat one. I miss that dog

Big fish contain higher mercury levels because they are further up the food chain, eg eat fish that contain mercury that eat fish that contain mercury.

Ginger with the fish kills the parasites hence the reason it's served with sushi.

Yeah maybe in the ocean but I dont see a small mouth bass being at the top of the food chain.

dogs where originally domesticated from wolves by their fight or flight instinct while getting to close to "human" garbage. dogs don't require a "special diet." a "diet" is a profit ideology with all animals including humans.

well I am not sure about the smallmouth bass fish. I think you should keep your dog away from fishes.

not to get off topic, but i am a firm believer in purchasing a fishing or hunting license. the money goes to maintain state parks, fund fish stocking programs, and wildlife conservation in the state you live in. if you fish and dont have one you are simply a poacher, and one day you are going to get caught. they will give you a ticket, and confiscate all of your gear. if you have a stringer with fish on it the penalty generally goes up. its is more than worth the 20 bucks for several reasons. just something to think about.

Depends on the situation. The state didnt stock my pond so nothing needed but a pole and bait.
