...is there anything I can do? He failed to "out" today due to overheating.

I feed at night and a blend of Orijen Red Meat and TOTW Salmon.

Does he stay outside? Like in a kennel? I have this problem with my dogs during training over the summer because they have been mostly inside dogs in the past...but we recently built kennels so they would be better "seasoned"

I also switched from feeding the Orijen (original formula) to feeding the ACANA Wild Prairie for the lower protien level which I have heard and read can make you dog "run hot" Not sure what you do to the ingested content by mixing it with TOTW Salmon.

Feed and feeding can be complex, and each dog is different in that respect. But to simply know what kind of dog you have can greatly effect his performance.

As a general rule, lazy dogs that just lounge around except for when they know it's time to work, feed time, or the occasional squirrel gets into the yard, will have "natural" wind.

And hyper, or dogs who always stay busy running their spots or kennel, always on alert will almost always run "hot". These dogs need substantial rest periods when being trained for competition.

Also giving certain medications such as heartworm prevention, or Ivomectrin can contribute to overheating.

Let me clarify, I wouldn't suggest skipping your medication because it contributes to overheating, just adjust accordingly.

Ok he gets Ivercare every month and Strongid every three months or before a trial (three weeks before) for general worming. He is hyper and super drivey. So, what do you consider rest, as dumb a question as that sounds.
