4-5 yr old rescued Red Nose, Attitude is changing, suggestions??(RESCUE STORY)

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Bigpimpin407, Mar 25, 2011.

  1. hi all, my name is mike aka big pimpin....

    i reside in (sanford)Orlando FL

i own a 4-5 year old full rednose pit, she is a very beautiful dog, i rescued her from (Lake Harney Woods), A swampy area about 50 miles from the city, when i got her she weighed about 35lbs, had no name, was covered with mosquito bites(only her nose wasnt bit), one of her eyes has like a cloud ring over her pupil

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

well i named her Nitty, and she now weighs 45lbs, she first would tear up my keyboard and my mouse, and shred items around the house, but she was very tentative, always listening for people, shes very sneak, well almost 2 yrs after i picked her up, i can walk her around without a leash, she will not run from me, and she listens by command on point every time, well i went away for about 10 months, and when i came home, she now barks and tries to bite anyone that runs in the house, but when you raise your hand to her (actioning as a smack) she bows, runs and hides, she had always done it, but from what my family says, shes being a bit more bossy,

what would cause her to get this way, shes a very happy dog always smiling (Yes looks like a smile) , she wags her tail at 10000mph all day and whacks everything with it, but when someone runs around the house, she flips out and starts trying to like bite at anyones legs...

i have another pitbull mix, hes almost 14 years old if not more(he sleeps all day)a 7 yr old Pomeranian mix (Very Relaxed laid back dog)and i have a mixed cat that plays rough with the pitbull and loves doin it

and she also likes to nibble the fleas out of everyone, (even me)

If she is trying to bite people without good reason to do so ( protecting you when she knows it's your life or hers) then put her to sleep. As bad as that sounds. It is what's best for the breed.

are you socalizing her and excerising her EVERYDAY?

Is she biting or nipping? Because there is a huge difference between the two. As diggit above says, she sounds like she needs more exercise and socialisation.

Save yourself the headache and get her on a leash too. If she's not used to a leash by now she'll be a pain in the arse for a while but it beats paying someone's vet bill.

Oh and before someone else jumps on you, rednose means nothing. It's just the colour of her nose.

  6. dont care if someone jumps on me i know dogs, ive had a pitbull around me ever since i was a baby, and have never seen or had an aggressive ones(my uncle did and he put em down cause the dog was too crazy), i know what i have, (and if u knew how many compliments i get when i take her out.....geeezz they never stop)

she ONLY barks at and chases ppl in the house when they run...... she hasnt bitten anyone..... but like i know, the actions could progress into something bigger later, this is why im asking here..

we have cats, she nibbles the fleas out of the cats and the other dogs in the house, she doesnt hurt thrm nor does she hurt any animals...if i take her to a park, over-social.. LOL(she becomes the center of attention, all the big breeds play with her and follow her), i just dont like the dog runnin at me when im trying to rush out the door, she hasnt bitten anyone, she just gets all puffed up and angry when ppl run,

i USED to take her everywhere when before i went away, and recently ive been in so much pain (sciatica) i cant do much

Most dogs will flea you if you scratch the base of their tail and put your forearm up to their mouth

Maybe this chase behavor was encouraged by somebody at one point? Just guessing.. I am agreeing with the suggestions more exercise. also you could try leashing her and have somebody run and correcting any unwanted behavior so she knows that chasing is not allowed.

youve never had a "flea biter"? they nibble on your arm, without touching the skin. theyll rip the hell out of your arm hair though

  10. The flea nibbling isn't worrisome - however when she tries to "bite" people who are running is she being excited due to the movement and trying to nip, or is she trying to truly bite you in an aggressive manner? If she is being nippy due to just being wound up maybe she was just never taught correct manners. If she is behaving aggressively she should be culled (humanely euthanized) for the safety of you and your family.

  11. like i said before, shes not coming to engage in attacking, she just comes flying from the other side of the house at 1000mph barking and chases you until you stop running, shes waging her tail AS she barks, so i dont think she will ever bite anyone, but she sounds big and scary when she comes running

so i dont necessarily get why she even bothers to get up from where shes laying to chase me because im running through the house to get something quick...

I am not worried about it, but im sure she will make someone else run screaming like if theyre being attack and take it as if she was trying to attack... cause she comes flying all puffed up and barking with her tail wagging but she doesnt try to bite... i can run past her 10000 times she wont bite but she damn sure sounds scary if u dont know her....

It sounds like a prey drive thing most dogs will chase and it is recommended to train it out of them the way DD said we had to do this with our dog but have given up because the kids keep encouraging him to chase them (kids and dogs) they think is really funny I don't like them all running through the house so dog gets kicked outside. He has never bitten anyone not a single mark he gets shoes, pant legs and sleeves with precision if his teeth so much as touch your skin he instantly stops and hits the deck like you are going to beat the shit out of him. He doesn't put holes in clothing either. Then there is the must see why someone is running reaction of chase and bark. Packs of dogs will do this one jumps up to check something out and the others will run barking to see also. I would say the rules lapsed while you were away and your dog has taken advantage of it.

Sounds like he does not want you to leave. I have had a few that would nip sleeves or pant legs when you try to leave their chainspace. He might think you are about to leave for another 10 months.

a springpole & a treadmill i think would do the trick.

  16. Your dogs both look a little overweight, their bodies just go straight backward like a log rather than having any definition between the hip waist and ribs - I'm wondering if more exercise could help. A tired dog is a dog that is often not going to be causing trouble.

  17. my black and white dog is 14 years old now, he sleeps all day now, that pic is before his significant aging peroid. as for my rednose, shes 45lbs, right about where shes supposed to be, when i got her, her ribs were sticking out and her legs were very skinny

  18. As I said above, if that picture of your male is from when he was in his prime, you may be keeping your dogs a bit on the plump side. Don't get offended, a lot of people seem to think showing any rib or a tuck at the hips means a dog is underfed - but that is how pit bull type dogs should look. Based off the picture of your male I am just giving some advice. Take it or leave it. :)

  19. As for the female, you need to correct her behavior and not reinforce it. It seems like she has a high chase/prey drive - use that in games and activities she likes and praise her then. If she chases you or someone in the house you need to stop her immediately and reprimand her. If you don't have experience training dogs look for a trainer in the area that has a solid reputation.

  20. no my male was about 70-75lbs in his prime and he was a bad mothaFucca then, now hes an old man, hes not wild anymore, i only see a few left in him, but for being 100+lbs for about 5 years and still going strong, hes quite impressive, i orginally got my rednose to breed her with him so i could get one of his puppies but that didnt turn out as planned...

i tell my rednose to stop and calm down, i tell her to not do it, she then sits in front of me and listens to me, i do have alot of experience with pitbulls, but ive never had one be this smart and happy but still act scary without wanting to attack...

i came here because ive been looking for a forum like this and i just happened to find it on google and more heads is better than just 1, so, others input into this matter help, thanks Releasethehounds
