Peeing when excited or scared???

Dayla is a 16 week old pit bull. We've had her since she was 8 weeks old. She's pretty much housebroken, but when she gets excited or gets in trouble she pees. We keep her and Oscar (1-yr. old Boxer) outside during the day. When I let her out of the pen I make her go pee before she can go in the house, but it doesn't matter, because when she runs up to someone for attention she will squat and start peeing when we pet her. She is very smart and knows when she does something wrong, so she normally runs from me when I start to yell at her peeing the whole time. It is really starting to become a nuisance. We love her very much, and want to keep her, but I don't know if we can considering we've already had the carpets cleaned once and we also have a 1 yr. old crawling around on the carpet she has peed on. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Thats normal for any kind of pup. They cant control there bladder. When they get older they will stop it but for now i wouldnt go up to her really happy because that just makes them more happy.I would pick her up outside before she comes in and giver her kisses ect. and then when she gets that attention she wont be ass hyper and happy. it should work always did for me.

 

Stop yelling at her for one. You are going to have to rearrange the way you deal with her. When she comes up all excited ignore her. Set up her life so she isn't going to need to be yelled at. Set her up to win. Make sure things are picked up off the floor she shouldn't chew. Don't give her free run of the house. Do you have an area of the house that has flooring? When you take her out of the crate or kennel, hang out with her in there instead of letting her run helter skelter around the house. If the area has no door, get a baby gate. You have to tone your reactions down notch if what you are doing is making her pee. Instead of yelling at her REDIRECT her to what she can do and praise her gentley, not to excitedly or she may pee again. Oh ya..... invest in a spot cleaner for your rug. You can use vinegar and water or an enzyme cleaner to clean it up. It's all part of puppy rearing and the sooner you accept that, the less frustrated you will be, the less you will yell at her and the less she will pee! lol

By the way, my pup is 10 months old and he still pees when he sees new people and he is well socialized. He can hold it for 8 hours straight without a problem but, when he meets someone he goes right where he is standing (sometimes on the persons shoe). Point is, don't expect to break him completely out of urinating out of excitement. Alot of dogs get too excited with people and their is nothing you can do about it.

 

Realistically, it's kinda a compliment from a dog! lol

It might not break out of it, my male is 2 years old and still does it! When someone first comes home he will get excited and pee. There's a couple things you can do. First when you come home or think she will be excited make sure you take her out right away before you even talk to her. Another thing to do is when she gets excited just ignore her. Don't look or talk to her until she calms down by herself. Then talk to her real calm, until she's back in control, this should work. The key is to ignore her when she gets too excited, if you ignore her then she has no reason to get excited in the first place, then you can give her attention little by little.

Be Stern But Not Scolding If It Pees In Front Of You Pick It Up And Carry The Pup Outside Let It Know Where To Go At. The Excited Peeing! (there Is Nothing Like It)

If you don't mind getting a little "pissy" lol, you're gonna have to pick her up right when she squats and get her out immediately. 16 weeks old is still potty training. Though she is out all day and knows to potty outside, when outside, sometimes they go braindead when inside. You have to teach them to go back out to potty. If you can get to her quick enough to get her out when she squats, it ought to help and it ought to remind her that pottying is for outside, not inside.

 

Its a pup! As it gets older and if you allow her to get some confidence it should cure itself. I have seen kids in little league pee themselves because or nerves and excitement. You have probably felt the urge to go before because of some emotion so let the pup grow alittle and let it be a pup and be prepared to wipe up behind it.

 

Submission urination and excitement urination are common in puppies. You can do a Google search for more info. Good luck and keep us posted.

 

lucy used to do this when we let her out of the crate the first person to touch her would make her pee, our solution was that when she came out of the crate she went directly outside that way she didn't pee on the floor, now that she is older she can hold it much better and doesn't squirt everytime she gets excited, yelling isn't going to help a pup control its bladder its going to make them more scared/excited and prob make them pee more.
