my dogs are out on chains unless I'm
not home/sleeping or other wise unable to watch them.
this is mainly because of my current set-up and situation.i currently have no fence and have problems with a few neighbors.

    IMO this is a fact
Ofcourse there are dogs from sertain lines that have the name to make more noice than the next one.
But i also believe eventually they make better house dogs.

I honestly feel it is how they are raised as far as how they are managed inside. Mine have always been in and out, so they are use to it. I have a friends dog now holding til April and he has not even been an inside dog and it shows...lol Some dogs are just happier out on a chain set. Anakin who has always been in and out would much rather be out, but is well behaved when he is inside because he knows the rules....

You can't take a dog that has lived pretty much for 3 or 4 years on a chain set or in an out door kennel and expect him to understand house rules.

Now with that said I don't want anyone to assume because my dogs are rotated in and out that they do not work, we have an indoor carpet mill, they have flirt pole time and spring pole time, we have a drag sled and all dogs get daily walks. It really is a full time non paying job for me ....lol

The best, and smartest dog I ever owned, was game breed. Whether she was inside or out. The smartest dogs seem to make the best house dogs, IMO. The worst dog I ever owned, was a scatter bred bitch. If she wasn't sleeping, she was barking, tearing up things, bouncing off walls non stop. She was a stupid, HA, pain in the a$$. In my younger days I could tolerate a hyper, fight crazy, bull dog. Once you have owned a "game" bred, intelligent, loyal, people friendly, proud APBT, that knows when to turn on the switch, and when not to. You are never satisfied with anything less.
So yes, the right one can be a great inside dog.

A house dog is just an outside dog with good manners. My dog thrived on the rules and routine of the household. If he wants to run around chew things up or even fart he takes himself outside.

All of mine are in. I live in the city, if they don't get stolen, they gets shot or poisoned.. not dealing with that. My bulldog was outside (just for some outside time) inside the yard and someone popped her with a pellet gun for no damn reason.. Any time at all the shepherd is out in the yard people taunt him as they walk by, I can imagine if I wasn't standing right there they might hurt him or get themselves bitten..

But if I lived somewhere where people weren't a problem, I wouldn't have an issue with yard dogs/outdoor dogs..

Though I do love the living heaters in my bed during the winter and having a dog in the house to let me know when anything is wrong... The shepherd is here as a nice security system.

Absolutly!!! I give ALL my pups the first 4-5 months in the house! They are then put on a chain to grow up into a self confident bulldog!! Do they attempt to eat my house down? Yep! Do I allow that? NOPE.
I am a FIRM believer that a bulldog that is given that extra "something" will GIVE that extra "something" when needed.
I always have one or two (opposite sex) in the house. Some dogs are really born to be outside dogs however and I have had a few of those as well.
Some of the best I ever had were also secondary bed warmers. LOL

I keep my 11 month old pup inside, but thats only due to where I live...I've turned the garage into a "playroom" for him, he's a little neurotic, hurdles the couches, but doesn't chew on anything. Some dogs are easier than others, this ones heavy on the eli so he's supposed to be nuts lol

  20. I think you are coming in here with some assumptions that are not correct off the bat so let me give you a little background. You won't find a lot of "breeders" here on this board, what you will find is people who keep dogs and when they breed two dogs together the pups are usually for themselves and friends. Of course there are always peddlers hanging around, but most folks here tend to frown on breeding dogs just to sell off.

Another thing you seem to be assuming is that just because a dog is on a chain it cannot be a "house dog". A lot of people in here rotate their dogs between days and nights out on the chain and some time in the house - the simple reality is that dog aggression is common territory in the breed and many fanciers own more than one dog. If none of the dogs get along then obviously only one dog can be running around in the house at once, the other dogs have to spend time on a chain spot.

Also, many many many people here own "house dogs" or dogs that live inside their home - where a dog lives doesn't make it useless, it is what a dog can do that determines its value for folks interesting in working. If a dog cannot catch a hog and its owner is a hog hunter, then they probably would not see the dog as too useful. He could pass that dog on to someone who wants companionship only and to that next person the dog is very useful. Where a dog lives doesn't really determine its worth.
