although i understand what lou colby ment i really cant find truth with it.a dog pulling weight is nothing but physical fitness and DRIVE.i think it is a horrible thing to breed a apbt. for.i do a little of it around my yard and i may compete in a couple of adba pulls but even if my dog became a national champ.it would have little to no bearing on weather or not i breed him. an apbt. pulling weight should be nothing but a means to exercise at the most a fun legal activity.

I see that people are hung up on the term game, which I only used twice in the original post. For everyone who has an issue with the term game from the original post I am moving that discussion on the term game to a new post here. http://www.game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?p=562069#post562069. I look forward to hearing everyone’s perspective.

I do like the idea of separating out the “qualities” of game however. I think it would help everyone if I changed the original post to say “game qualities” instead of just “game”. Since I do not have the ability to edit the original post please consider this post notice of change.

    QUOTE=venom;561454]
Its like saying it is important to reconize bird dogs that are gun shy... just because a bunch of people own and breed their balls off for whatever reason. It would be like me owning a subpar bird dog and saying, hey! he has many other purposes ya know? Doesnt matter if hes gun shy! NO lol The dog is suppose to be able to do the job intented... and if that job was not in mind when breeding then we are talking dogs that are going in two totally different directions... hence the distinction between Apbt and amstaff.[/QUOTE]

Realistically what direction is the APBT headed and what direction is the AmStaff headed? Do you feel this quantifies them as different breeds? If you feel like they are different breeds do you think this division helps or hinders one or the other specifically?

I did not mean to personally offend you if I did. My point was that realistically what percentage of people are going to leave their home for another country just to fight their dogs? What percentage are going to uproot their families and comforts of home just to fight their dogs? Even if moving is to a 1st world nation? I think everyone knows the reality is that people are not going to move. It fighting their dogs is of that level of importance and they live where it is illegal they will simply do it illegally.

Part of the series will deal with education. Part will focus on health care. Part will focus on BSL, Part will focus on responsible ownership. The primary purpose however will be to showcase their physical abilities and promote resources such as sport clubs and trainers so people can be more interactive with their dog.

I think that people are going to do what they are going to do and if they want a puppy they will get one. Whether it be a Pit Bull or a Shih Tzu. I think everyone who gets a dog however should have access to available resources to interact with their dog in a positive manner. I think in a contest if a $100 dog can prove itself worthy at a specific task it should be afforded the same rights as the $1,000.

Let us go on the idea Colby meant simply testing or training for a specific “game quality”, such as strength.

Yes. And to expand what other legal pursuits in terms of activities can or should be pursued? I would like people to give examples of activities and how they can specifically be used to train or enhance aspects of “game quality”? Examples Weight Pull – Strength, Treadmill - Speed

Now we are getting somewhere. I like your examples of agility and sprints. I think that Weight Pull has its value but I like the idea of looking to try to naturalize the competition environment.

To try to understand what is their maximum performance standards. I think your statement about the elusive nature of the term game is very appropriate. Moved the game discussion to here. http://www.game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?p=562069#post562069. Would love to have your ongoing input.

That is one of the points of the original post. What events can test for what qualities?

I think adding physical fitness and drive to the definition of game would be fair. http://www.game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?p=562069#post562069. Would love to have your ongoing input.

Actually I think we may be closer in our thoughts than you think. As part of the original post I mentioned those who were “just talk”. I do not think that such tests will prove a dog to be game or not. I think that they will merely help a dog reach its optimal physical abilities and highlight traits that are game qualities.

americansuperdog,i really not sure why I'm wasting my time responding to this{your about as thick headed as my wife} perhaps cause work has been slow and i have more down time then i know what to do with.
you CAN NOT just change the definition of a word because you don't agree with it...there is and always will be ONE way to truly test for this, you cant just turn around and say hey since the method of testing isn't legal anymore lets just have them pull some weight and it will be just as good..it doesn't work that way.there are plenty of other places that it is legal and plenty of people here that don't give a shit that its not..

Basically, this guy is speaking for majority petbull/pitbull owners. He keeps hinting about all dog owners, and what everybody owns, a way everyone can test their dogs, challenge their dogs, etc etc. Only problem is these dogs are not for everyone and just like the sport they were bred for.

Every dog owner doesnt have to be some sort of breed preservationalist. You can own a dog and not have to test it, breed it, etc. Just be responsible, love and enjoy your animal and you will probably do more good than you would have trying to do all that other stuff.

  8. Sorry guys I have been watching this thread pop up heaps 4 quite a while now and ASD is either really thick(I dont believe so) or is stirring the pot. We all know there is only 1 way 2 test 4 gameness and there will always be those who are willing 2 break the law 2 test it. This being said I think we would all be better off banging our heads against a brick wall than trying 2 get through 2 ASD.

Most times I wish this breed never became open to the public, the old timers stayed in the hills or were ever they lived. This breed of dog would have been much better off but most of us would not have them. The clowns in streets would not know where to find them.NBC,CBS,ABC,CBC,CNBC an FOX would have no news reports on the bad stuff that has been that has been happening with these dogs. The PETA jokers would have to find something else to vent their tiny minds on,like helping find Child molesters.

like all fads this to will pass.many breeds have been through this doberman, gsd ect.best we can hope for at this point is to just weather the storm and be thankful for the few that will continue to maintain the breed in its original form in the mist of all the bullshit.

The situation the APBT finds itself in is MUCH different from that which the Dobe, Shepherd, St. Bernard went through. THOSE breeds got through their fad years, those breeds didn't go through what the APBT has gone through for 30 years and counting -- and it gets WORSE every year for the APBT, the breed remains attractive to the worst of the worst in society who see fit to re-invent it every few years.

The original Pit Bull WILL survive. But it's not going to stop for those on the surface, where they will remain one of the most abused animals on the planet, used by the worst of the worst in society, fitting it to their vision of the big, bad Pit Bull.
