First let me say, I do not want to create my own bloodline, I am not planning on doing this. I am just wondering how it is done. I have researched online but havnt been able to find anything that simply answers the question how to create your own bloodline. the only things I have been able to find are people asking the same question and than people saying "it takes a lot of work" and than go off on tangents about if they are breeding for the right reasons, and why they want to breed etc. not doing it for the money, to better the breed, etc. should all be givens, but again I am not planning on breeding, both my dogs are spayed and neutered. I am just wondering how someone creates their own bloodline. so if there is anyone out there that can answer that question for me that would be great. thanks

how do you create your own bloodline?

  2. Take Mayday for instance. They had a female that had the traits of the line that they wanted. They paid David Tant a stud fee and they had Mayday. Victor schooled the dog and campaigned him. They then bred the dog like crazy and they did the right thing with the off spring. Now, Mayday in my opinion would be a bloodline like Red Boy or Eli.

    you dont.

You always end up with using somebody's bloodline.
Even if you breed with your own dogs for 8 generations from now, somewere youve started with some bloodline so its still based on that. only diffrence is you'r breeding them for the last couple of years/decades.
Hope this explains it a bit

Hmmm to think of it you got a point there Lakewood

  5. Thanks. You are correct as well. Victor and his crew started with someone else's bloodline. The thing is that the dog became famous and the cross is not mentioned anymore. The Mayday line is what is known.

The same goes for anyone that you want to look at. Redboy, Eli, SNooty, whoever they had to come from somewhere. The dog made the line famous.

True u can start ur own blood when u have a hellafide producer and u outcroos to something else. Cause u cqnt take a good producing jeep dog and breed him to jeep females thinking ur starting ur own shit cause ppl are just going to say thats a jeep hound.

Spend your life breeding dogs. :)
With knowledge, respect, luck and good stock, you have a chance.

Only breed if its in your heart.

When you are dead, time will tell if you created a lasting line of dogs.
I try and go old school, however being born in the 70s' I am "new school" haha. Just working with good dogs and trying to keep it real.

If I died tomorrow, my dogs will live of through out the US and Canada.
That is close enough for me. Over a decade of work for fun and to help the US have Bull dogs for the future.

I'll set up an example and see what ya'll think about this:

I've got a dog (male) "let's say" out of Garner's "Ch. Dynomite" now "I" have raised this dog from a puppy, when it comes time to enter him into a (female) of a completly different line (let's say I received at the same time) and they are both 2 yrs. old now and the female is down from (let's say) some Davis' "Gr. Ch. "Boomerang ( now remember Garner would NEVER be able to bred to this female, or may not want to, lol) so now "I" have made all the choices on the 2 dogs and have a litter, then take a male out of this litter, and bred it back to the "Boomerang" female (his mother) that "I" raised and choose to breed (the 1st time) .....Who's line is it??

P.S. Another thought is have you ever wished that your named was not on a line that some BYB's started breeding it all the wrong ways, now you're kinda saying to yourself "man this guy is giving the line of dogs that took me 10-15 yrs. to build a very bad reputation??

I think this has happen to all of us that have had a PROGRAM that we built over a long time.LOL!!!

its theirs until youve done something bigger and better with it.
until youve proven you are producing superior animals consistently and bettering the breed.
breeding programs move forward if they are going to be successfull.
just my take on it, and i know, its a predictable answer lol

That doesnt make any sense you dont have to outcross to create your own line all you have to do is work your dogs and breed your dogs everyone has different likes and dislikes when breeding dogs so you can have dogs breed the same way as the next person and they be totally differnt dogs.

That is why if you care that much you shouldnt sell dogs to anyone with cash, i hear the term a lot just curious what makes a person a backyard breeder.

Lee D... would you give your take on that ? about what is a BYB!!

I think you are probably a little smarter than I am and better with words.

I may say the wrong thing and hurt some feelings!!!

BYBs dont breed for themselves, IN MY OPINION, they breed simply so they can say theyre a breeder and that they got pups off good dogs( and in whos opinion are they good dogs anyway?) for sale. i think ive read enough of Stratos posts to say thats not the situation. breeding for yourself, farming a few out to keep em close, and culling the ones found not to be worthy...thats how its supposed to be done. and if a few get sold to a KNOWN select few who also have a nice yard of dogs, i have no problem with that. thats how things keep moving forward and men can work together. as long you make sure they aint ending up in unworthy hands, you aint a BYB

i know, another textbook answer Stratos, but im feeling a little rough this morning. it is the weekend lol

hows that work if you bought W's off another dogman, then fed em and bred em the way you saw fit? is it then "your" line?
we all know that happened in the past and good men didnt get the credit they deserved. (not saying they wanted it)

you need more than just 1 dog and 1 bitch to create a line .heres my take on it .firstly you obtain the best stock available. perhaps 2 bitches and a dog . breed said quality dog to both bitches ,select best of the best from the two litters ,then breed,..the parents can then be used in further matings and vice verser .eventually you will need to outcross,if you get that far you will know why !i dont know how many generations of dogs it takes to become your own though ..jmo
