I'm thinking you have memory loss.

from the male that you bred that was less than a year old at the time of the breeding and still less than a year old when they were born.

That wasn't my breeding, someone paid a stud fee to me to breed to him. So, like I said this is my first breeding in a very, very long time.

Sorry wardog, my previous post was screwed up, to busy enjoying life to make any sense, will it harm me ??:D………..ill out live you all:D
Ive seen the rise of the raw diet , …….read the conspiracy theories, the fear mongering, the inflated claims, etc……………..I'm not a vegan, and I enjoy a smoke and a drink, I like meat and couldn't care less for colonic irrigation……don’t like brown rice, and do enjoy a nice bacon sandwich, and sausages as well, …..balance is the key to a good diet as far as I'm concerned , not whether raw is better than kibble, or raw vs. canned meat…….I've got no time for majoring in the minors.
Years ago I was taught to feed touch of lambs liver, touch of ox heart, tripe, toasted stale bread, nob of cheese, touch of egg ,a few veg, off cuts and table scraps, the odd big butchers bone……..and no pork……..I follow simple logic when it comes to feeding dogs, they will eat anything and everything, or they don’t eat from a young age, if its fit for human consumption its fit for a dog(within reason) I don’t believe in diets or special feeds, and never opt for a certain food type based on financial reasons, good quality and balance is all I care about not processed vs unprocessed, digestion rates of this food over that food, or raw vs cooked.………work puts a dog in shape, a balanced diet , good shelter, stress free living, plenty of exercise, and enjoyment of life leads to old age and happiness, from people to dogs…..the rest is genetic........all creatures degenerate over time......their is no elixer of life for people or dogs.
The Daley Thompson reference was to a man who is considered one of the greatest if not the greatest decathlete of all time, his love of fast food didn’t hamper his rise to greatness……genetics and hard work played a far bigger role……..there are very few absolutes in life, if raw works better for you or any one over what was fed before ………then more power to you…good luck to all.....what ever you feed.:D

  5. Wow so you studded out a 9 month old puppy.

I guess that pretty much blows all this bullshit you posted right out of the water huh.

Sorry but raw is the best for dogs since they are programmed by nature to be on a raw diet. I'll agree that work puts a dog in shape, but raw is a better quality feed than any dogfood. Also Daley Thompson is a great decathlete, but how many athletes can eat fast food or other crap and still remain as great an athlete. Also Daley Thompson's diet didn't consist primarily of fast food, he just didn't obstain from indulging once in a while, not everyday. If you are a body builder and you are on a low protein, low carb, high fat, and high calorie diet, your results would be far less than what you'd get by going on a high protein, high carb, low fat diet since protein is great for muscle repair/growth and carbs are a strong source of energy for humans, while fat is a less efficient source. Also by eating healthy and by staying in shape, you will live longer. Believe it or not, dogs fed raw or cooked, before the advent of dogfood, lived far longer than the average life span of dogs today (12-15 years). The dogs back then lived on average (14-18) years. While 2-6 years longer might not be much, the quality of life was much better. Less reports of cancer, obesity, thyroid issues, etc. There were far less health problems and the wellbeing of the dogs were greater, and most likely longer.

DAMN... what to even say to that. I've got issues with a lot of breeders out there but to see something like this from someone who knows better is just sad.
Know my opinion doesn't mean anything but just throwing that out there.

cool, sounds like you got it all figured out, raw is best in your opinion, good luck with the raw.
as for dogs being programmed to be on a raw diet, any dog ive ever fed was programmed to eat what i fed them......a balanced diet, they were far more robust than simple raw eaters, they lived to a ripe old age,...but thats just me...
as for bodybuilders, they are fine show men, their ability to diet there way to shape is very impressive.........however real big strength athletes follow a completely different diet, their love of fast foods is legendary.....broiled chicken, brown rice and protein powder just dont cut it............finally daley thompson, his performance achievements owed nothing to his diet, genetics and hard work were the keys to his success........if you believe that diet shows a dramatic improvement in your dogs , then good luck to you newschooldogman..:D....each to his own,......im still not a convert:D

"Real big strength athletes" do follow a different diet, namely higher calorie intake, but quality calories though. Just ask any of the strongmen contest winners, and although their love of fast food might be "legendary," it is by no means 100% of their diet. Hell, I love to go on vacation, but I don't go every week, only 2 times a year. Also true, Daly Thompson's performance had a lot to do with hard work, hence why consuming and indulging in fast food once or twice a week wouldn't hurt him. I doubt he'd be the athlete he is today by eating nothing but McDonald's everyday. However, I am by no means an evangelist and won't try to convert you, so rest assured my friend, I fully respect your wishes to feed your dogs whatever you feed and I too wish you good luck (not sarcastic at all), for anyone that has had a dog live close to 17 years is doing something right :D

I wasn't the breeder and I told him it wasn't a good idea but he wanted to do it. I could care less if he wants to breed his bitch to my pup. The owner of the dam is the breeder, not me..

all gum flapping aside about your dogs and/or breeding practices, as far as the dog doo disposal you mentioned, look at this site -

    http://www.cityfarmer.org/petwaste.html

we've had luck burying a 30 gal trash can up to the rim and cut the bottom out of it and used the septic starter. as long as it stays wet year round you shouldn't have any issues. if you use a large enough container (and depending on the kind of earth you're situated on) you should be able to dig below the frost line and have no problems with freezing.

as for the raw diet, we tried supplementing raw w/ diamond about 3 years ago and had mixed results with our mutts, now they are on Innova Evo. Free-fed works great, kind of expensive, but i'd say the apbt eats about 2 cups a day and the jrts anywhere from 1/2-1 c a day, depending on their activity level. i add rendered beef fat on top of their feed in the winter to make sure they have a nice layer of fat on them, worked great for 2 seasons so far. the dogs drop rocks in the kennel and on the chain, never runny, always regular.

good luck, and keep us posted.

p.s. - i've read some good posts by slim12 about raw diets, hit him up.

I have fed both raw and kibble, when I switched from TOTW to Raw for a 3 month period THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE DOGS LOOK, STOOLS OR PERFORMENCE. However when I switched from TOTW to Canidea it was a HUGE DIFFERENCE. I thought the Canidae was junk. I swiched from TOTW to Puinia High Protien for the winter months due to my dogs stay too lean on TOTW or RAW. It comes down to genetics and balance in my opinion just like tiger said. As far as boggies reply, Wardog did not write Breeding 101 he just posted it for discussion purposes. I only see a bunch of shit talking on this site anymore (not refering to you Boggie just what I see anymore thread after thread), if everyone worried more about the dogs as a whole rather than just one aspect of them we would all be doing a great service to the breed, and maybe we could pull all of our resourses together for this goal rather than constantly bickering about this that and the other thing which DOES NOTHING FOR OUR DOGS or how they are viewed in todays society. People are using these dogs as a dick measuring contest:rolleyes:

Thanks Chef! I've seen that septic thing online beofre and it does look interesting. I should be moving this summer, so I might give that a shot at the next place. I am picking up raw food I am weaning the pups onto. I will take some pics of it and try to figure out what the hell is in it, lol! I just order a postal scale and meat cleaver. As soon as I get that stuff in the mail I will give the adult dogs a shot at it for a little bit and see what happens. I have a pregnant bitch that is due in 6 days. I am going to keep her on dog food cause I don't want to disrupt her system switching over to raw while she is pregnant and about to drop pups. So, I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for the tips.

  17. I love Hare-today wardog - Never had ANYTHING but great experiences ordering meat from them. I've gotten all kinds of stuff, from the whole rabbits to the ground meat - it is all good stuff. Had a pit who would scarf down the small rabbits like candy, he loved them.

Awesome:) I am getting ready to leave to pick up some stuff from her in 45 minutes. This is my first experience with her and raw. I figured the pups have never had kibble, so now is a good time to start with them.

  19. And of COURSE raw can be detrimental if you feed it just because you are jumping on some bandwagon Tiger - but if you do your research and feed it correctly it is heads and shoulders above the rest. Just because people are starting to do it as a "fad" now does not mean smart folks have not been doing it for years and years with great results.

    Also this:
Is the basis for a very simple raw diet, so why are you getting so down on raw? You have your organ meats, muscle meats, some egg, a meaty bone, and some veggies - that right there is a basic raw diet...... yet you talk down on a raw diet... LOL
