I've considered doing that! He might look a little bit funny but if it keeps him home I don't care LOL.

thanks much boogie. i'm using that configuration for one of the two dogs i got from willie wonka. this site has helped me for 6 years with a plethora of knowledge.

  3. No problem ;) It's something I dreamed up on my own. The first one I didn't separate into enough different sections so the gravel slides some. The second one works much better that I have in the pics :)

Something You might try, If he's slipping out of the collars. Go to a pet store that sells "round" leather collars and buy two that fit pretty tight but not enough to choke him, They seem to be harder to slip and if he's fairly strong doubling up on them might work. the wider the collar actualy the easier it is to slip out of them for smooth coated dogs. The collars are called round because they are sewn together between the buckle and the billet making them more like a cord and allowing for use on long coated breeds without causing as much hair matting from the collar rubbing. If you double up on them You could put a shackle or a cold shut connecting the two dee rings together to make attatching a chain to both easier, I would not just run both collars through a harness ring for fear of wear on the leather. This has worked for me in the past when I had a few belgium malinois.

wont the leather eventually stretch over time and make it easier to pull out? i was told never to use leather on a tethering system.

Yes it will. The holes stretch. I sent out collars made with double layers of 10 oz. leather that were stitched together, then slightly hardened around the holes with the water hardening technique used on leather armor and they still stretched.

I've tested leather collars with grommets in the holes. They stretched too.

They will stretch but if hes just looking for a way to keep the dog secured temporarily then The trick is to buy the size that have to be on the last hole to fit and adjust as needed and using his brain would take a nylon collar also and use it to absorb the force of the dog pulling on it. the trick is the rolled leather is a narrow material and will get closer to the skin allowing some of his fur to help keep the collars from just slipping off so easily.

  9. Well I've tried 3 different gravel. Pea gravel first, too small. 1 1/2-2 inch second, too big. 1" just right ;)

The pea gravel makes for really easy clean up but it moves to much. The big stuff makes scooping poop next to impossible. The 1" is a happy compromise :)

It's river rock. No dust!!!!! Very smooth so it's comfortable for the dogs to lay on.

around here you can call the rock quarry and have it delivered, but its pricey. i used "road stone' once(its cheap) and thats not a good idea.
dusty as hell and anything from pebbles to boulders lol.

btw thats a nice setup Boogie

  11. Quarry or landscapers should be able to get the rock for you. ;)

    Thanks Lee!
