I know most of you guys use chains and I do also but is there any bad reasons you dont use cable tie outs ?? just wondering I used the search and didnt find much.

a cable just wont last long no matter how thick really they will eventually kink them and they will break

    so can a chain

false. all depends on what you use-just like with chain.

a proper cable run can be just as good as a proper chain setup-note the key word proper. 2nd rate materials in either setup will lead to premature failure or an unsafe condition. both require dilligence in inspection/maintenance

I think he means just using the cable/axle setup without the whole pulley system etc.
Saw some cable runs and i personally like them more than chain setups. But I have never seen someone using cable without a pulley system.

we have all seen pics of poor setups, ~heavy~ chains knotted, is it common every day occurance? no, but it is certainly possible

and yes, while cable/wire rope is sold in rolls we must remember that metal has memory, it can easily regain and maintain a straight line form

Ground cable runs..they dont kink...they don't roll up....they don't wrap the animal...they last as long as any set-up if done properly using high grade materials /hardware...same goes for the overhead cable set-up. Benefit is large area for the animal with minimal weight for the animal to drag around. Less Circumference taken up in an area where space is limited. A 6ft chain connected to 30ft cable allows for 360sqft which is roughly the same as using a 19ft chain.

Correction to post above edit options unavailable ..........using a 11 ft chain give you roughly 381 sq ft spot.
