    If I were to move there on a temporary work visa, could I bring a couple of my dogs? I saw something that said you cannot bring pure apbt in the country. Can you get around this? ie what if I say it is a mutt?

    I think you will have a hard time getting them in.

    Why would you want to go to Australia? lol jokes you aussies

    Dogs of the following breeds (including crosses of these breeds) are not eligible for importation:
    • American Pit Bull Terrier;
    • Dogo Argentino;
    • Japanese Tosa; and
    • Brazilian Fila

    Chump, the APBT are banned for import into both countries, as we are both in the commonwealth , we adopted the same import laws as our so called "mother land" had put in place.

    The only possible way is that you had a dual reg APBT/amstaff then you could bring them in as amstaffs. your rednose dog however is kinda stuffed.

    If money is no problem you could do a little research into getting your dogs dna tested and get legal paperwork to say they are not apbt, then you may be ok.

    As Australia also has strict Quarentine laws your dogs will be kept for about twelve weeks before you can actualy pick them up once in the country and i think thats is for rabies ect but im not sure.

    I would say your best bet is to look into the DNA test as apparently most apbts come up as mixed breeds lol. ive seen a test on a adba papered dog from great blood results come through as jack russelxboxer which made me laugh, and its not uncommon.

    Depending on how long you plan on staying its an expensive flight for the dogs, two friends i have moved from South Australia [my state] To Boston Mass and two dogs cost them in excess of $5000 aus, and thats without paying for the Quarentine your dogs would have to go through.

    I am not 100% about how long your dogs are kept you would have to contact AQUIS for that info.

    Quantas [Australian Airline] will not transport any dog that looks remotley like an APBT at all and refuse to give reason, it is even a part of their policies, and they have pictures of APBT and how to pick one all over their animal dispatch centres ive seen it myself.

    Overall as you can see its very very hard to get them in, and your other issue is finding somewhere that will allow you to keep them.

    If you can find away to get them in and and need help on the local laws in keeping and containment contact me anytime and i will give you any info i can.
    The laws are cloudy in somestates and you can find a loophole but some are very strict like Queensland.
    NSW is tight with laws but people get away with it.
    Vic is getting worse and worse by the month but still has a high % of ownership.
    SA is kind of strict the laws are in place but the peoiple enforcing them dont care.
    By law i have to have six foot fences minimum, dangerous dog signs on every entry point, padlocked gates, the dog must be in a kennel or tethered even when in the yard, My dogs are suposed to wear a bright "dangerous dog collar" when in public, and also have to be muzzled.

    Sounds bad but its allways been that way so you get use to it.

    Feel free to contact me if you want any more info.

    Thanks for the info Junkyard. I wouldn't doubt it if my mudbloods came back as a poodle cross ;)

    I have seen some cool hog hunts in NZ. I figured it would be fun to bring a catch dog or too.

    Chump depending on which state you are considering, it wouldnt be hard to try to line a hunt or two if you look hard enough, most of us are pretty warm if it means showing someone our country. But seriously, if you came here when its warm your time is better off sitting at a beachside bar with a beer looking at the talent and if you can seperate one from the herd your luck just got better.

    I sat here typing for 10 mins, then decided not to help prying eyes. Look just go to the AQIS and customs website and it will tell you how to import the dogs brother.

    You need A) vetrinary certificates saying what the breed or X is,
    B) a statutory Declaration from you saying its not a restricted breed.

    The government knows all the loop holes like we all do, hell better than we do lol. When you email customs for clarification they virtually spell it out for you and even give you the legislative sections for reference.

    On a side note did you all know the 3 quarantine points have run out of lease and can't be renewed? They are going to have to find other digs because the owners are going to develop the lands.
    Now thats a balls up.
